On the morning of February 16, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with relevant agencies, the Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, the Netherlands Business Association in Vietnam and partners, organized the event 'Cycling for the Future'.

The total cycling distance is 15km, starting from the City Theater through Dong Khoi, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Hue, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Ben Thanh Market, Independence Palace, etc. and ending at the Consul General's residence.

At 6am, 400 participants were present at the City Theater (District 1) to receive their shirts and prepare for the approximately 1-hour cycling journey.

Two young men, Rick Keijzer (21 years old) and Sven Broekhuizen (25 years old) - Dutch citizens who have just completed a nearly 20,000km cycling journey lasting 343 days from the Netherlands through 24 countries to Vietnam, were also present at the event today, marking the end of the journey.

Before starting his journey in Ho Chi Minh City, Rick Keijzer quickly grabbed a sandwich to recharge his batteries. "We are passionate about cycling and love to explore the world. The journey from the Netherlands to Vietnam was a great experience. I find that regular cycling is completely feasible in Ho Chi Minh City."

Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City excitedly said: "From this event, we hope to spread the message 'cycling for the future'. City residents can absolutely use bicycles to travel in combination with the metro line to reduce environmental pollution."

The event started at 7am. Rick Keijzer and Sven Broekhuizen cycled and filmed the event to share with the community.

Sven Broekhuizen loves the tree-lined streets and cool morning air of Ho Chi Minh City.

Bicycles not only contribute to diversifying urban transportation methods in the city center but also bring health benefits to users, reasonable prices, and reduce environmental pollution.

The group of cyclists passed the Independence Palace. This was also a rest stop.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh (Binh Tan District) took a souvenir photo in the grounds of the Independence Palace. "My family often rides bicycles on weekends to exercise. Through this activity, children will love cycling more; at the same time, it encourages the community to use public transportation more," said Mr. Hoang Anh.

Rick Keijzer and his mother, Sonja, cycled in the courtyard in front of Reunification Hall on the morning of February 16, before continuing their journey on stage 2.
