Netherlands interested in investing in semiconductor chip sector in Vietnam

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said his country is interested and will consider investing in the semiconductor chip sector in Vietnam.
On the morning of January 22, local time, in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on the occasion of attending the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-Netherlands Comprehensive Partnership in recent times, especially cooperation in climate change response and sustainable agriculture. Based on increasingly consolidated political trust and the friendship and multifaceted cooperation that have been nurtured over the past 50 years, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed promoting the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries to a new, deeper and more practical level. The two countries actively concretize the two Sectoral Strategic Partnership frameworks on climate change response and sustainable agriculture; continue to effectively implement existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and consider expanding cooperation to areas where the Netherlands has strengths and Vietnam has demand, including high technology, semiconductor chip design and manufacturing and other scientific and technological fields. The Prime Minister also asked the Netherlands to soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and urge the EU to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood to further facilitate bilateral economic and trade cooperation; continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands to successfully integrate and contribute to the socio-economic development of the host country. Prime Minister Dick Schoof expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and said that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries have developed well in all fields and the two countries need to make efforts to promote bilateral relations to develop more strongly because there is still a lot of potential and room. Prime Minister Dick Schoof said that the Netherlands is interested and will consider investing in the semiconductor chip sector in Vietnam. He also congratulated Vietnam on hosting the UNCTAD Ministerial Conference in late 2025. On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited Prime Minister Dick Schoof to visit Vietnam soon, attend the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit hosted by Vietnam in April and review high-level agreements between the two sides. The Netherlands is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest investor of the European Community (EU) in Vietnam. In the context of global trade facing many challenges, trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 will reach 13.77 billion USD, up 26% compared to 2023.
