On the evening of September 23, local time (morning of September 24, Vietnam time), during his official visit to Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh took time to meet with the Vietnamese community there.

Continue to spread the Vietnamese spirit

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy when hearing the Ambassador's report that no overseas Vietnamese here are too poor or too miserable, especially in the current situation, many countries, even the US, have very high unemployment rates.

"People coming here show happiness, prosperity, care and love for each other, which is very precious," the head of the Government expressed.

Overviewing the relationship between Vietnam and Brazil, the Prime Minister said that the two sides have always supported each other in development since establishing diplomatic relations in 1989.

Up to now, trade and investment relations are the major orientation. Up to now, two-way trade relations have reached 7 billion USD.

“We are directing continued negotiations to sign trade agreements with countries in the South American region and with Brazil. There is huge room for development on both sides,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to the Prime Minister, Brazil has more than 214 million people and more than 8 million square kilometers of land, an easy-going market with great potential. Therefore, Vietnam is calculating negotiations to expand into this market, focusing on Vietnam's strengths such as leather shoe and garment exports and the agricultural and aquatic product market as well as cooperation in education and culture.

The Prime Minister encouraged Vietnamese people in Brazil to call on their relatives or bring their brothers, sisters, and friends who have the means to do business and live in Brazil or other South American countries, in order to continue spreading the Vietnamese spirit. Because, in the past, traveling was difficult, but now it is much more convenient for people who have the means to do business and live abroad.

“As long as you look towards your homeland and country, everything will be fine. That will help bridge the development of the relationship between the two countries,” the head of the Government said.

Summarizing the domestic situation, the Prime Minister repeated the statement of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: "Our country has never had the potential, assets, position and prestige as it does today."

The Prime Minister cited the positive trend in the socio-economic situation in August, with many sectors achieving better results than in July, maintaining the momentum of "next month being better than the previous month, next quarter being better than the previous quarter".

GDP per capita in 2022 will reach more than 4,000 USD, the economic scale will reach more than 400,000 billion VND and most importantly, no one will go hungry despite difficulties, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Notably, in recent difficult years, Vietnam has done well in social security work, investing more than 100,000 billion VND in social security packages, covering many subjects. In addition, the role and position of Vietnam are increasingly appreciated.

The Prime Minister cited that at the recent United Nations forum, US President Joe Biden spoke about the Vietnam-US relationship as a model in international relations to put the past behind, cooperate together and look to the future...

“That is our correct foreign policy. Vietnam builds an independent and self-reliant economy but actively and effectively integrates,” the Prime Minister affirmed.

Unity and always towards the homeland and country

In addition, the Prime Minister also pointed out some internal difficulties of the economy such as inflationary pressure; existing problems of the stock market, real estate, etc.

This is a common difficulty of a small-scale, highly open economy with limited resilience to external shocks like Vietnam.
