Earlier, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan sent his deepest condolences to Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

At 11pm on September 12, a 9-storey mini apartment building with about 150 residents in lane 29/70 Khuong Ha street, Khuong Dinh ward (Thanh Xuan district) caught fire. The fire spread from the first floor through the stairs to the upper floors, killing 56 people and injuring 37 others.
A week after the fire, the Hanoi City Police Department announced that the cause of the fire was a short circuit in the electrical line in the battery area located at the front of the scooter.
On September 13, the case of Violation of Fire Prevention and Fighting Regulations, according to Article 313 of the Penal Code, was initiated. The owner of the mini apartment building, Nghiem Quang Minh, was detained for 4 months.
