Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang visits and works in Cambodia

At the meetings, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the 7th National Assembly election and expressed her impression of Cambodia's socio-economic development in recent times.

The Deputy Minister believes that the official visits to Vietnam by President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary (November 30 - December 2) will bring new momentum for the two countries' relationship to continue developing trust and closeness.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said that on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Victory Day over the Genocide Regime (January 7, 1979 - January 7, 2024), Vietnam plans to hold a solemn ceremony to commemorate the above event in Hanoi as it did in 2014 and 2019. This is an important event, helping to strengthen propaganda and education for the people of the two countries, especially the young generation, about the tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

In the spirit of the traditional friendship between the two countries, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked the Government and people of the Kingdom of Cambodia for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work stably in Cambodia and asked Cambodian leaders to continue to pay attention and support in resolving a number of issues related to people of Vietnamese origin.

The Deputy Minister hopes that the Cambodian side, especially local authorities at all levels, through the Khmer - Vietnam Association in Cambodia and in coordination with Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia, will step up the work of mobilizing and propagating people of Vietnamese origin to comply with the laws, guidelines and policies of Cambodia, especially the contents related to the registration and extension of foreign resident cards, and the policy of relocating people out of the river area.

Regarding the issue of legal documents, the Deputy Minister requested that Cambodia continue to issue and extend permanent resident cards for foreigners of Vietnamese origin; direct local authorities at all levels to issue administrative documents to holders of permanent resident cards for foreigners, creating favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia who meet the conditions under Cambodian law to acquire Khmer nationality.

Regarding the policy of relocation and resettlement, the Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam understands Cambodia's policies on economic and social development and protection of landscape and environment. Vietnam hopes that the relocation will be implemented with a reasonable and feasible roadmap, with resettlement areas arranged with essential infrastructure, linking resettlement with job conversion support, creating livelihoods, helping people to soon stabilize their lives, ensuring social security and contributing to the overall development of Cambodia.

Leaders of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Phnom Penh city assessed that the relationship between the two countries is increasingly developing deeply and thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their practical support in all aspects in recent times.

The Cambodian side proposed that both sides promote the connection of the Phnom Penh - Svay Rieng expressway with the Ho Chi Minh - Moc Bai expressway to enhance trade and tourism.

The two sides expressed their delight at the positive development of bilateral relations, the maintenance of regular high-level contacts and exchanges, and the growing economic and trade cooperation, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

Regarding the issue of Vietnamese people in Cambodia, leaders of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the capital Phnom Penh all affirmed the policy of continuing to create conditions for foreigners, including people of Vietnamese origin, to live stably in the spirit of complying with Cambodian law.

Previously, on the afternoon of November 30, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Rubber Group Representative Office in Cambodia, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang worked with the Vietnam Business Club in Cambodia.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the contributions of Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia to the development of economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries, thereby supporting social security and creating jobs for people, including people of Vietnamese origin. The Deputy Minister asked enterprises to further promote their role in supporting people to change careers and improve their lives.

The same evening, the delegation also worked with the Khmer - Vietnamese Association in Cambodia. At the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the important role of organizations representing the community in supporting, propagating, and guiding the Vietnamese community in complying with local laws, ensuring timely renewal of foreign permanent resident cards, raising awareness of self-improvement, proactively changing careers, and integrating into Cambodian society.

In order to further promote the results of the past time, first of all, the Khmer - Vietnamese Association in Cambodia must be a strong organization, playing the role of a center of community solidarity, always standing side by side to support people in all aspects of life. The Association needs to increase attraction and mobilize the participation of capable and prestigious people in the Association and have specific programs and plans to carry out community support tasks.

The Deputy Minister also acknowledged the recommendations of the Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia and the Vietnamese Business Club in Cambodia. The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work with domestic authorities and the Cambodian side to find ways to resolve the difficulties and obstacles that people and businesses are facing.
