Choose school because love school

Recently, at the graduation ceremony for medical doctors and bachelors of medicine for the 2022-2023 academic year, organized by Hanoi Medical University, new bachelor of medicine Nguyen Trieu Nam was honored for graduating as valedictorian of the entire bachelor of medicine course for the 2019-2023 academic year, with an average score of 8.4 for 4 years of study.

Nguyen Trieu Nam (right cover) was honored at the graduation ceremony of doctors and medical bachelors of the 2022-2023 school year of Hanoi Medical University.

Talking to Thanh Nien , Nam said he never expected that his seemingly "reluctant" choice 4 years ago would lead to such a wonderful result today.

"I decided to study laboratory technology at Hanoi Medical University because I love this school so much, the school I cycled to school for 3 years in high school," Nam shared.

According to Nam, since he was a child, he dreamed of becoming a doctor, so when he passed the 10th grade of Kim Lien High School (Hanoi), he immediately started studying for block B. The road from home to school passes by Hanoi Medical University, so the image of the Hanoi Medical University headquarters building is very familiar to him. How many times, when cycling past the school gate, he exclaimed to himself, "I wish I could become a student of this school!".

However, the race to enter the general medicine major of this leading university in the medical field is very fierce. Mr. Nam scored nearly 25 points, while the standard score for the general medicine major that year was 26.75. When he made his choice, knowing that his score would make it difficult to get into the medical major of his dream school, he hesitated and thought about choosing the medical major of some medical schools located in other localities such as Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh... But then, Mr. Nam decided to make his second choice as laboratory technology - Hanoi Medical University.

"My parents were also wondering why I decided to study this major. Some even suggested that I should review my exam again. But before that, I had researched and found that the laboratory technology major seemed interesting, so I bet my choice on luck. Who would have thought that it would be a very wise choice," Nam laughed happily.

Excited about new horizons of knowledge

Nam said that he is a very curious person, likes to explore knowledge, so he finds himself very suitable for the subjects of laboratory technology. In the first year, he had to study many general subjects, so Nam was not very excited. But since he learned the basic subjects of the industry, especially since he had the opportunity to do an internship at hospitals when studying pathological anatomy, Nam has really become passionate about his field of study.

New medical graduate Nguyen Trieu Nam has found love in the field of laboratory technology.

Learning becomes an interesting activity when it satisfies curiosity. Before, knowledge comes through imagination, then the experimental part helps learners approach real knowledge (knowledge that is proven and confirmed by oneself). Nam also realizes that his personal development opportunities are very large, because he can continue to study higher, access deeper knowledge, and can do many useful things to protect public health.

"Medical laboratory technicians are the first people to come into contact with clinical samples, viruses, bacteria, etc. When I first started my internship and came into contact with biological products, I felt a bit scared, especially when testing clinical samples on a part of a patient's tissue. But later on, the feeling of fear disappeared, and was replaced by excitement because I was able to directly experience the journey of discovering new knowledge," said Mr. Nam.

It was both unfortunate and fortunate that Nam’s course covered the entire period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although during the Covid-19 pandemic, Nam and his friends could no longer go to the hospital for their internship.

But in return, Nam and his friends were able to directly participate in activities with the school and the medical sector to fight the pandemic, so they were able to hone many valuable skills for a future laboratory technician. "We were lucky to be able to intern at major hospitals, so the knowledge we gained was always up-to-date and comprehensive," Nam said.

Explaining why he has outstanding academic results compared to his peers, Mr. Nam said: "In addition to being diligent and hardworking when studying clinical medicine, I also love reading related documents. I not only read a lot of Vietnamese documents but also a lot of English documents. It is the English documents that have opened my eyes to many new and interesting things, it shows me that there is truly an endless source of scientific resources for me to freely explore."
