In response to information that there are Vietnamese people currently stuck at Brazilian airports for many weeks, reporters asked questions at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 5.
Regarding the above issue, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang cited information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, there are a number of cases of Vietnamese citizens among the migrants staying at Bruhope airport in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil is closely coordinating with local authorities to monitor the situation and deploy measures to protect Vietnamese citizens if necessary.
"Vietnam's consistent policy is to promote legal and safe migration, prevent illegal migration and human trafficking, and protect the rights and legitimate interests of migrants," Ms. Hang emphasized.
Accordingly, to prevent migration through unofficial and unsafe channels, as well as the exploitation of migration routes, recently, authorities have stepped up communication about legal and safe migration channels and warned citizens about the risks and dangers of migration through unofficial channels.
"We are also stepping up the implementation of the plan to implement the global agreement on safe, orderly and regular migration, issued together with Decision 402/QD-TTg dated March 20, 2020 of the Prime Minister, and closely cooperating with relevant countries to create and maintain a transparent and safe migration environment, for the legitimate rights and interests of migrants," the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson affirmed.
Citizens need to carefully study the legal policies of the destination country and the transit country when migrating and comply with Vietnamese law as well as foreign law, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended.
Reuters reported earlier that more than 660 migrants from India, Nepal and Vietnam have been stranded at Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport for weeks, sleeping on the floor in alarming conditions as they wait to enter Brazil. According to the Public Defender's Office, these people do not have visas and are waiting to enter the country.
