Carlo Acutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, was known for using his computer skills to raise awareness of the Catholic faith. He was dubbed a "God influencer".
It can take decades for the Catholic Church to recognize Acutis as a saint, but the process of making Acutis a saint has been swift, as the teenager has amassed a loyal following around the world. His story is seen as helpful to the Catholic Church as it seeks to better connect with younger generations in the digital age.
A date for Acutis' canonization has not yet been set, although it is likely to take place sometime during the Catholic Church's jubilee celebrations in 2025.
The canonization ceremony, scheduled to take place in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City in front of tens of thousands of people and presided over by Pope Francis, will be the moment Acutis is officially declared a saint, meaning the Catholic Church worldwide can name parishes and schools after the teenager and will have an annual feast day to remember him.

Acutis was born in London, UK in 1991, and is remembered by friends and family as someone who loved playing video games such as Halo, Super Mario and Pokémon.
During his short life, Acutis also ran a website that documented reports of miracles happening in various parts of the world. Along with computers and video games, Acutis played the saxophone, enjoyed soccer, loved animals, and made short comedy films about his dogs.
His mother, Antonia Salzano, described her son as a “sign of hope” for holiness. She said that from the age of nine, Acutis spent time helping the homeless in Milan and gave his pocket money to those sleeping on the streets.
Acutis was beatified and declared a “blessing” in 2020 after his first miracle, when he reportedly healed a Brazilian boy who was born with a pancreatic defect that prevented him from eating properly. The boy was said to have been healed after his mother prayed to Acutis.
The second miracle attributed to Acutis involves a girl from Costa Rica who suffered a head injury after falling off her bicycle in Florence, Italy. Her mother said she prayed for her daughter’s recovery at Acutis’s tomb in Assisi.
