With about a month to go until the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, the atmosphere in flower villages and ornamental plant gardens in Thanh Hoa has begun to become bustling. Garden owners are actively taking care of each flower bed and tree, and at the same time importing many new types of flowers and flower varieties to meet the needs of people for decoration and playing with flowers during Tet. Traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums, roses, and peach blossoms still occupy the main position, but besides that, many imported flower lines or unique ornamental plant models are also being brought in to enrich the market.
In Dong Cuong flower village (Thanh Hoa city), the atmosphere at the end of the year is more exciting than ever. In the vast fields of chrysanthemums, roses, and lilies, flower growers are busy taking care of each clump, carefully pruning them to bring them to market in time. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a long-time flower grower here, shared: "For the flowers to bloom in time for Tet, we have to closely monitor the weather and adjust the light and watering every day. This year the weather is considered quite favorable, so the flowers bloom in season, with beautiful colors. My family has high expectations for this Tet season, hoping that the flowers will sell well to make up for the care they have taken over the past months." In addition to cut flowers, gardeners also focus on producing potted flowers such as raspberry chrysanthemums, phalaenopsis orchids, and bonsai peaches... These are all popular flowers because they not only beautify but also bring luck and fortune in the new year.
Ornamental plants are also a popular item during Tet. In Trieu Son district, kumquat gardens seem to dye the whole sky with spring colors. The artisans here not only take care of traditional kumquat shapes but also invest time and effort to create unique tree models, bearing a strong personal mark. Kumquat pots shaped like sailboats, the words "luck", and the words "fortune" are not only beautiful but also contain messages of fortune and luck, which are very popular with buyers. Mr. Le Van Binh, a famous garden owner in Hop Ly commune, said: "This year, we focus on designing tree models suitable for office and home decoration needs. Bonsai kumquat models are most popular with customers thanks to their delicate designs, easy transportation and display".
In Xuan Du commune (Nhu Thanh), peach trees are becoming the center of attraction for buyers. Peach trees here are famous not only for their light pink flowers, but also for their elaborately pruned shapes, demonstrating the talented hands of artisans. Mr. Le Van Hung, a person who has been involved in peach growing for decades, shared his pride: "This year's peach trees are of outstanding quality. Thanks to favorable weather and care techniques, we have received orders very early, hoping that this Tet will bring a bumper crop." The bonsai peach trees, long-shaped, and curved-shaped... have an ancient beauty, not only decorating the house but also symbolizing luck and wealth.
A highlight of this year's flower market is the strong explosion of online sales channels. Many gardeners and businesses have quickly caught up with the trend, taking advantage of social networks such as Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok to introduce, promote, and sell products. Live streaming on these platforms not only helps sellers reach a large number of customers but also creates close, convenient interactions for those who cannot go to the flower market. Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, a flower trader at Vuon Hoa market, said: "If in the past, customers often had to come to the place to choose flowers, now thanks to applying the form of online sales, we have expanded our customer base, especially those who are busy or live far away. Hand-delivering flowers not only saves time for both parties but also contributes to significantly increasing the store's revenue."
Although the flower and ornamental plant market is vibrant this year, gardeners and traders also face many challenges. The purchasing power of some customer groups has decreased due to economic difficulties, along with weather pressure and product quality requirements. However, thanks to their business acumen and flexibility, especially the application of technology to expand the market, flower and ornamental plant growers in Thanh Hoa are still optimistic about a successful Tet season.
The flower and ornamental plant market during Tet is not only bustling but also carries the breath of spring. The colorful flower pots and sophisticated ornamental plants not only decorate the house during Tet but also reflect the unique culture, symbolize prosperity and wealth, are meaningful gifts, and convey good wishes for a new year of peace and happiness.
