According to the method of building admission combinations for many years, depending on the characteristics of the training industry, schools build many suitable admission combinations. Each field of study has many admission combinations, candidates can choose their own strengths to achieve the highest results when participating in the admission.
For example, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Master Quoc said that the school has a direction to consider the average score of a combination of 3 subjects, in which 3 independent subjects or 2 subjects including the main subject multiplied by a coefficient of 2. This combination is applied to the methods of considering from the results of the high school graduation exam, specialized capacity assessment exam and high school learning results. However, the specific subjects in the combination need to be based on the actual data of the subjects that students study in the high school program.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, also said that the admission is still based on subject combinations to suit the characteristics of each training profession. Regarding the competency assessment test of Ho Chi Minh City National University, Dr. Nhan said that adding new subject questions of the 2018 General Education Program is necessary to increase opportunities for students. At the same time, candidates are allowed to choose 3 out of 6 subjects in the problem-solving section, which is also in line with the spirit of the new program.

Sharing about the expected changes in the school's enrollment in 2025, Master Nguyen Hua Duy Khang, Deputy Head of Training Department of Can Tho University, said that the school will review the admission combinations and build combinations with new subjects of the 2018 General Education Program, according to criteria suitable for the field of study.
Master Khang believes that if students are carefully guided to choose subjects that match their abilities and strengths right from grade 10, it will be very good for choosing a major when applying to university. The problem is that universities will review and build subject combinations that are suitable for students' subject and exam choices in the 2018 General Education Program.
"It is possible that in the method of considering transcripts, schools will add some new subjects in the new program to some combinations, suitable for the majors being considered for admission. For example, the combination of majors related to engineering and technology will have the subjects of technology and information technology. The subject of economic and legal education can be added to the combination of majors in economics and law... However, if added, schools should minimize "strange" subject combinations that are not suitable for the majors being studied," shared Master Khang.
Similarly, Master Trinh Huu Chung, Vice Principal of Gia Dinh University, said that the school will also have some adjustments to the subject combinations for admission to match the subjects of the 2018 General Education Program.
According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Vu, Head of Admissions and Brand Development Department of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, the school plans to consider adjusting the subject combinations according to the subjects and exam subjects chosen by the candidates to suit their majors and to create a recruitment source. "At the same time, the school's own exam in 2025 may also change to suit the 2018 General Education Program," Dr. Vu shared.

Dr. To Van Phuong, Head of Training Department of Nha Trang University, said that the method of building suitable admission combinations from 2025 needs to be carefully considered. Mr. Phuong analyzed: "If candidates are admitted to the school based on subjects and exams that match the admission combinations, it is fine. But if candidates who have not studied those subjects in high school are admitted to university, how should the school organize training and teach additional knowledge? Therefore, the school must establish a research group to find appropriate solutions."
Sharing this view, Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Business Relations Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the school is also carefully studying the subjects and exams of the 2018 General Education Program before deciding on the admission method. The school will conduct a school-level scientific research project on solutions to improve the quality of regular university admissions in the period 2024 - 2030. The school plans to conduct a survey on 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and teachers of high schools in the southern provinces from Quang Ngai and below before deciding on the admission method for 2025.
Regarding the admission combination, Master Thai Son said that in addition to the compulsory subjects (math, literature and foreign language), the school may give students the opportunity to choose subjects to apply to the school. In particular, students who choose to study natural sciences will be considered for engineering and technology majors. Students studying social sciences will be considered for law and tourism majors. Meanwhile, the economic major can consider both groups of students.
Ho Chi Minh City students have 2 ways to choose elective subject combinations
According to Thanh Nien reporters, when implementing the 2018 General Education Program, depending on actual conditions, high schools in Ho Chi Minh City organized for 10th grade students to choose subject combinations according to 2 methods: open or "combo".
Students are studying the 2018 General Education Program, including elective subjects.
In schools with maximum openness, students proactively choose a combination of 4 subjects out of 9 optional subjects including geography, economic and legal education, physics, chemistry, biology, technology, information technology, music, and fine arts.
For example, at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (District 5), Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District), Dao Son Tay High School (Thu Duc City)... 10th grade students have been able to choose 4 subjects according to their interests, abilities, and career orientation. From the students' subject choices, the school has arranged a flexible timetable to meet their needs. In the morning, students will study in traditional classes, and in the afternoon, they will study with students from other classes with the same elective subjects they have registered for.
However, most schools build some combinations in the form of "combo" based on student orientation and actual teacher conditions.
For example, Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1) has created 8 "combos" which are 8 subject groups corresponding to 4 exam blocks A, B, A1, D for students to choose from. Le Quy Don High School (District 3) has also created 15 subject groups in the natural and social sciences for students to choose from. Similarly, Nguyen Huu Cau High School (Hoc Mon District) has 8 groups with the appearance of all 9 elective subjects.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hao, Principal of Dao Son Tay High School, said that in top schools, students tend to choose more natural subjects. At the same time, according to Ms. Hao's analysis and prediction, with the draft of the 2025 high school graduation exam, there are 2 elective subjects, so when choosing 4 subjects in the curriculum, students calculate to choose 2 subjects for the graduation exam, university admission, the remaining 2 subjects will be chosen in a light direction to reduce pressure.
