According to CNN, in October 2023, Mr. Cuevas filed a complaint with Boeing, stating that Spirit had changed the manufacturing and assembly specifications related to drilling holes in the forward pressure bulkhead stabilizer of the 787 aircraft without Boeing's permission. According to him, this could compromise the aircraft's strength and air pressure. Mr. Cuevas was fired in March of this year after reporting the incident.

In a statement issued on June 26, Boeing said Mr. Cuevas’ concerns were thoroughly investigated, and engineering analysis determined that the issues raised did not pose a safety concern and have been resolved. Boeing added that it does not participate in decisions regarding contract employees.
"We strongly encourage anyone with a safety concern to report it and we thoroughly investigate everything," the FAA said in a statement. The FAA has received a total of 126 reports against Boeing this year and 11 last year.
