On May 9, in Quang Ninh, a meeting was held to agree on a plan to organize the official opening ceremony of the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) bilateral border gate pair, including: the Bac Phong Sinh (Vietnam) - Ly Hoa (China) customs clearance at Km0 and the Hoanh Mo - Dong Trung border gate road bridge.

The talks were organized by the People's Committees of Binh Lieu and Hai Ha districts (Quang Ninh, Vietnam) in coordination with the People's Government of Fangcheng District (China). This is an event of political, economic and cultural significance not only for the border localities sharing the pair of border gates but also for both countries.

The announcement ceremony is expected to take place in May 2024. In particular, the announcement ceremony for the opening of the Hoanh Mo - Dong Trung border gate pair will be held at Km0, Hoanh Mo - Dong Trung Border Gate Road Bridge; the announcement ceremony for the opening of the Bac Phong Sinh - Ly Hoa customs clearance route will be held at Km0, Bac Phong Sinh - Ly Hoa freight transport bridge.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed on the draft plan, script, and program content with the main contents including: Welcome art program; Local leaders of both sides performing the ceremony to officially open the Bilateral Border Gate and witnessing the opening ceremony for import and export goods through the border gate; plans on how to arrange space and set up the stage to ensure the safest and most solemn conditions.

The two sides also agreed to focus on promoting the results of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China, between Quang Ninh province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in general and Binh Lieu district, Hai Ha district and Fangcheng area, Fangchenggang city in building a peaceful, stable, friendly, cooperative and developing border, and building border gates.

At the same time, promote the potential and advantages to attract trade activities, promote the development of border trade between the two sides through the bilateral border gate pair Hoanh Mo - Dong Trung and the customs clearance route Bac Phong Sinh - Ly Hoa.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Pham Duc Thang, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Lieu District and Mr. Cung Phat Minh, Deputy Secretary of the Regional Party Committee, Head of the People's Government of Phong Thanh District (China) both said that they would be determined to coordinate quickly and promptly to soon complete the work that had been discussed and agreed upon. From there, they would continue to further improve the quality and efficiency of border gate work, realize the goal of gradually modernizing border gates, attracting the attention of investors and businesses, and maximizing the operational functions of this pair of border gates.

Relatives of former Chinese advisors meet with son of General Vo Nguyen Giap

On May 7, in Dien Bien Phu City (Dien Bien Province), a delegation of relatives of former Chinese advisors who helped Vietnam in the resistance war against France met with Mr. Vo Hong Nam, son of General Vo Nguyen Giap. This was one of the delegation's activities during their visit to Vietnam at the invitation of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Ministry of National Defense to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
