Enjoying coffee every day is a habit of millions of people around the world. In addition to bringing a feeling of refreshment, a cup of coffee every morning also provides countless health benefits.
Not only that, a new study has discovered more miracles from coffee.
According to research recently published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology , drinking coffee daily can also slow down the signs of aging on the face.
In addition to bringing a refreshing feeling, a cup of coffee every morning also provides countless health benefits.
To compare the effects of drinking four types of beverages, including coffee, tea, wine and sugary drinks, on aging, scientists from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Beijing Union Medical Academy (China) surveyed data from 16,677 Europeans.
Results showed that coffee is the only beverage that significantly slows down the aging process of facial skin, according to health website Verywell Health .
Facial aging is greatly influenced by oxidative stress. Researchers say the antioxidant properties of coffee can combat oxidative stress and inflammation. The polyphenols in roasted coffee can improve skin elasticity and moisture, slowing down wrinkles and other signs of aging.
The magic lies in antioxidants, especially polyphenols like chlorogenic acid, which may be responsible for the anti-aging effects, explains Dr. Hannah Kopelman, a dermatologist based in the US.
Drinking coffee every day can also slow down the signs of aging on the face.
Research has shown that consuming more polyphenols can slow down cellular aging and effectively reduce skin aging, by increasing collagen synthesis in the skin. Coffee also contains caffeine, a bioactive substance with anti-aging properties due to its ability to scavenge free radicals and remove damaged keratinocytes. Caffeine has been shown to lengthen telomeres, thereby reducing cell aging. Additionally, studies have shown that chlorogenic acid in coffee has the ability to reduce skin aging.
To reap the health benefits of coffee, moderation and consistency are key. Dr. Kopelman says two to three cups of coffee are enough to get the full anti-aging benefits, according to Verywell Health.
Dermatologist Tyler Long, from the New Jersey Dermatology and Laser Center (USA), advises: It is best to drink coffee in moderation but maintain it daily because antioxidants and other anti-inflammatory compounds can accumulate in the body.
Skip the cream and sugar in your coffee if you want to maximize the anti-aging benefits. Sugar can contribute to a process called glycation, which can increase oxidative stress in tissues, says Dr. Long.
