According to Deputy Minister Thuong, foreign languages are the tools for us to step out into the world. With the policy of gradually making English the second language in schools, localities have proactively come up with practical and effective solutions to improve students' foreign language skills, helping them to be confident and become global citizens.
To improve their capacity and qualities, students not only learn knowledge from books but also learn through many different methods, from teachers, friends, information technology... In addition to school time, students are encouraged to self-study and proactively acquire knowledge. Self-study but they are still oriented to be effective.
“To be successful, students need to be persistent, brave, confident, and proactive in order to have both knowledge and many other skills,” said the Deputy Minister.

Affirming the role of the teaching staff, Mr. Thuong emphasized that each teacher is an example of self-study, creativity, inspiration and motivation for students.
With the newly issued Circular 29, the Ministry of Education and Training does not prohibit extra teaching and learning but strengthens solutions to synchronize management and ensure the rights of students. Only when teachers truly fulfill their role as inspirations will each student have a happy day at school. Launching the month of self-study of foreign languages, but hoping that students will have the spirit of proactively studying all subjects and fields.
According to Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the unit has launched a foreign language self-study month movement on the FSEL online platform. Since January, more than 615,000 people have registered to participate, including more than 593,000 students and nearly 22,000 teachers.

The conference to activate the foreign language self-study month is an important activity, marking a new step forward in the innovation of foreign language teaching and learning methods, meeting the increasing demands of modern education; encouraging students of high schools in the city to improve their self-study ability, develop language skills, and at the same time create a vibrant, effective and creative learning environment.
Self-study is also an effective implementation of Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training on extra teaching and learning, aiming to promote the movement of self-awareness and initiative in the teaching staff and students. It is necessary to raise the sense of self-respect and self-esteem of teachers to "say no" to illegal extra teaching.
Attending and speaking at the program, Miss Vietnam Do My Linh shared that as a former student of Viet Duc High School, she is always proud to have studied in a dynamic and modern educational environment, always encouraged by teachers to explore and be creative.

As someone who loves foreign languages and always wants to develop herself, she has had the opportunity to participate in many community programs and witnessed many examples of persistent learning spirit, the constant efforts of people of different ages, from students, university students to working people, even elderly people who still persevere in learning foreign languages every day. "That makes me believe that learning is never too late, and every small step today is a solid foundation for tomorrow," said Miss My Linh.
She hopes that, along with launching the foreign language self-study month, it will create a more vibrant learning environment for young people to connect and open up new opportunities with the world more confidently.
