With a cumulative average score of 9.11/10, Ly Phi Cuong excellently became the valedictorian of the 2023 graduation of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education. Recently, this male student was also honored by the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnamese Student Association at the "Honoring the Valedictorians" program in 2023.
Ly Phi Cuong is a student majoring in control and automation engineering. During his time at university, Cuong always set specific goals and made clear plans. "I observe, perceive, and evaluate myself to know my strengths and weaknesses, from which I can find ways to overcome or develop them. Besides, I find that self-study is very helpful in equipping myself with the knowledge and skills that are lacking," Cuong shared.

That is why in the past 4 years of study, this male student has received 7 scholarships to encourage learning from the school. "Because my parents are farmers, working hard all year round, "selling their faces to the ground, selling their backs to the sky", so from the beginning I always tried to get a scholarship to cover some of the expenses, reducing the financial burden on my family", Cuong confided. Talking about the challenges during his studies, Cuong said that the most difficult time was when he was doing his graduation project. The graduation project topic was "Designing a model and remote control for a 6-degree-of-freedom serial cable robot" which Cuong and 2 other students undertook. Cuong said: "We had to simulate and conduct experiments on this model. The first challenge was to learn about remote control devices. This is a new technology in Vietnam and I was guided by my teacher to buy equipment abroad. Thanks to the efforts and perseverance of reading many books and newspapers from equipment suppliers, we also found a way to approach and understand it. The emotions exploded when setting up and running the equipment". After that, the group conducted experiments on the model on the real system. Cuong said that the real system worked almost differently from the simulation. The simulation was quite ideal, there were no phenomena such as interference, related mechanical problems... The real system was the opposite. At this time, the group had to work hard from morning to late night. Thanks to that, we gradually fixed the errors on the model and achieved the set goal. The project was highly appreciated by the lecturer and scored 9.3 points. Dr. Tran Duc Thien, lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, commented: "Cuong's group's topic is quite difficult, requiring a lot of related knowledge, including robotics, electricity and mechanics. Although the topic is difficult, Cuong and his two friends persevered and worked effectively as a team to achieve success, which is commendable". In recent years, Cuong has achieved many achievements such as: the title of "5 Good Students" at the school level for the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 school years, second prize in the academic competition "Applying GENESIS64 SCADA software", author of a scientific article on a remote control system for a 3-degree-of-freedom robot published in a prestigious international journal...
