Ngoc Linh ginseng garden of Chau A Venh's family.
To build a Ngoc Linh ginseng garden, Chau A Venh and his wife invested 400 million VND to buy seedlings. This is all the money the couple saved after many years of working for hire. Currently, the ginseng has entered its second year of development, with suitable soil and climate conditions, and the plants are growing and developing well. Venh shared: “To take care of ginseng, you need to have techniques, watch the humidity, too much humidity will kill the plant, too dry will also dry the plant. Weather like here, when it rains a lot in September - December, you have to cover it with a tarp, otherwise the plant will rot.”
Ngoc Linh ginseng tree is nearly 2 years old.
Ngoc Linh ginseng roots can be harvested after 5-6 years of planting, and from the third year, leaves, flowers, and seeds can be harvested. Mr. Venh added: “I have learned how to grow from seeds, and will expand the ginseng garden and sell seedlings. Next year, the ginseng will be harvested, a 3-year-old plant will have about 20 seeds, and I will collect over 10,000 seeds. Growing the seeds is not too difficult, you have to soak them in boiling water, then cold water, then grow them.”
Every year, the ginseng leaves will wither once, the ginseng root will also add 1 more node, 6-node ginseng equivalent to 6 years old costs 20 - 30 million VND/kg. From Mr. Venh's model, many union members and young people have also come to visit and learn. Some people boldly bought seedlings to experiment with small models.
Youth union members in the commune came to visit and learn about the model.
Mr. Sung A Do, Secretary of the Youth Union of Pa Cheo Commune, Bat Xat District, said: “Mr. Chau A Venh is a member with a very good idea of economic development. Initially, some members did not know about this ginseng plant, but through this model, some youth members also participated. I also hope that there will be more models like this to promote local economic development.”
Aiming for good ginseng products that are safe for health, Mr. Venh grows them entirely using organic methods, manually weeding, and preventing pests with garlic, chili, and lemongrass solutions. Mr. Chau A Venh's Ngoc Linh ginseng growing model will open up a new direction for economic development, bringing income to the people of the Pa Cheo highlands.
