Sophia Phuong Anh continues to affirm her level in the Vietnamese pickleball community with 3 titles at the VPO Hanoi tournament that took place last weekend. This is a tournament with more than 600 athletes participating from all over the country, one of the largest pickleball arenas in Vietnam.
In the Open women's doubles, Sophia Phuong Anh paired up with American athlete Tia. This duo excellently defeated two players competing in the Australian professional tournament system.
17-year-old athlete Sophia Phuong Anh won her first championship in 2025, at the VPO Hanoi tournament.
“This is my first gold medal to celebrate my 17th birthday. The final match against two very strong opponents from Korea and the Philippines was really difficult, especially since they were both very good.
In that match, my teammate Tia and I played until exactly 12 o'clock in harsh weather of about 9-10 degrees Celsius, but we both tried our best and coordinated very well to be able to break through and win. That made me extremely emotional and proud," Sophia Phuong Anh shared.
In addition to the women's doubles championship, Sophia Phuong Anh also won third place in the mixed doubles and third place in the women's singles despite facing opponents who were much stronger in both age and experience. These are impressive achievements, once again proving the talent and efforts of the female athlete who has just turned 17.
In 2025, Sophia Phuong Anh aims to participate in more international tournaments both domestically and internationally, alternating with training trips to the US and Australia to improve her competition experience and compete with the world's top players with DUPR 5.0+ ratings.
