During the days of floods, central and local press agencies have proactively and actively updated and disseminated the latest information on the situation of rain, floods, weather forecasts and natural disasters.

The press agencies have promptly disseminated the direction and management of all levels and sectors in response and recovery with the motto "human life is above all", contributing to thoroughly minimizing the loss of life and property of the people. In addition, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Source Information System has effectively promoted its strength in communication work at the grassroots level.

The content "Hey everyone, Nui Coc Lake Dike Break" with pictures of a dike break in another locality, posted on a Facebook group called "BEAT THAI NGUYEN".

However, besides positive information, there is still a lot of unverified information, false information, causing misunderstanding in public opinion, confusion among the people, affecting the work of disaster prevention, control and search and rescue in the province.

In the face of the above situation, the Department of Information and Communications has coordinated with the Provincial Police, the Police of districts and cities to promptly verify and strictly handle cases of false information about the rain and flood situation in Thai Nguyen. Notably, on September 10, 2024, on the social network Facebook, Mr. Truong Nguyen T, permanent resident of Quan Trieu ward, Thai Nguyen city, shared and set the content to public "Hey everyone, Nui Coc Lake Dike Break" with pictures of the dike break in another locality, on the Facebook group named "BEAT THAI NGUYEN".

At the meeting with the authorities, Mr. T reported that when he posted the post, he was not fully aware of the legal regulations when using social networks, and this was his first violation. He requested the authorities to consider reducing the penalty for the violation. During the handling of the case, Mr. T honestly confessed, cooperated well with the authorities, and promptly removed the incorrect information.

In addition, some cases, after being reminded, promptly wrote a commitment, removed the information, and publicly apologized and corrected the information on their personal social media accounts.

Thai Nguyen Province authorities recommend that people be extremely vigilant, identify fake news, false information, and not post or share unverified information. Those who provide false information, affect disaster prevention and control work, and cause public panic will be severely punished by authorities according to regulations.
