Thach Thanh proactively protects forests during hot season

By April 2024, Thach Thanh district has more than 27,666 hectares of forest, including 3,910 hectares of special-use forest of Cuc Phuong National Park, located in 3 communes: Thach Lam, Thanh My and Thanh Yen. The special-use forest here is very diverse and rich with many rare species of animals and plants, especially in terms of plants, there are some species of trees classified as endangered and rare such as: Trai ly, Cho chi, Sen, Tau, ... so there are still many potential risks of encroachment on forest resources and forest fires during the hot season.

To protect forests (FOR), prevent and fight forest fires (FF) in the hot season, Thach Thanh District Forest Protection Department has advised local authorities at all levels to develop and effectively implement FOR and FPF plans.

The Forest Protection Department regularly organizes propaganda and dissemination of legal regulations on forest fire prevention and control, mobilizes people to strictly implement regulations on forest fire prevention and control; commits not to use fire indiscriminately in production and daily life causing forest fires; is responsible for participating in forest fire fighting when mobilized. The Forest Protection Department of Thach Thanh district has advised local authorities at all levels to develop and effectively implement forest fire prevention and control plans. Identify key areas and causes of forest fires, such as forests in Thanh Long, Ngoc Trao, Thach Cam, Thanh An communes, etc. to deploy specific solutions to manage key forest fire areas. Notably, regular propaganda and legal education activities are organized to raise people's awareness of forest fire prevention and control work; directs households to regularly clear vegetation, repair firebreaks, reduce combustible materials under the forest canopy; renew firebreaks combined with forest fire prevention and control patrol roads; Conducting forest fire fighting drills for PCCCR teams at the grassroots level; strictly managing fire sources brought into the forest illegally...

In the first 4 months of 2024, Thach Thanh District Forest Protection Department proactively coordinated with Thach Thanh Protective Forest Management Board and local authorities to repair and maintain 8.4km of white firebreaks combined with BVR and PCCCR patrol roads. Guided and directed households in the area to clear vegetation to reduce combustible materials under the forest canopy by 46.25 hectares. Propagandized and mobilized households in the area to proactively implement regulations of the State, all levels and sectors on BVR and PCCCR.

Implementing the regulations on coordination in management, forest protection, fire prevention and fighting, and combating illegal forest product trafficking in the border area between Thach Thanh District Forest Protection Department and Cuc Phuong National Park Forest Protection Department, Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong Nature Reserve Forest Protection Department, Lac Son District Forest Protection Department, Yen Thuy District Forest Protection Department, Nho Quan District Forest Protection Department (Hoa Binh Province), leaders of the units have directed their subordinate forest protection stations to develop coordination plans suitable to the local situation. At the same time, they have directed forest rangers in Thanh Yen, Thach Lam, and Thanh My communes to develop specific plans for coordination in forest protection and fire prevention and fighting activities with forest rangers in charge of sub-areas 6, 7, 13, 16, 18, and 19 of Cuc Phuong National Park.

The Thach Thanh District Forest Protection Department and 5 border forest protection departments have directed forest rangers working in the area to regularly coordinate and advise the commune-level authorities to organize local forces to patrol forests periodically every month and every quarter according to plan or suddenly when there is information. The forest protection departments have organized 8 times of coordinated forest security inspections; organized 4 conferences to propagate forest protection for people living in border areas with special-use forests. In addition to coordinating in forest patrols and inspections, the forest protection stations and sub-regional forest rangers of the units regularly coordinate with local organizations to organize propaganda and legal education to raise awareness for people to proactively protect forest and prevent forest fires. The leaders of the Thach Thanh District Forest Protection Department and related forest protection departments also regularly exchange information on the forest security situation in special-use forests and border areas, information on the situation of law violators in the forestry sector to combat, prevent, arrest and handle promptly.

By the end of April 2024, the entire existing forest area of Thach Thanh district will be safely protected, with no forest fires. Forest security will be maintained in a sustainable manner.
