Mid-Autumn Festival according to the Lunar calendar is the 15th day of the 8th lunar month every year. This is a children's festival and is also known as Lantern Festival, Moon-watching Festival, and Reunion Festival. Children often look forward to this day because they are often given star lanterns, carp lanterns, and masks by adults, and eat moon cakes.
The Mid-Autumn Festival cannot be without the image of colorful lanterns shining brightly under the golden moonlight. For Vietnamese people, lanterns come in all colors and are made from items familiar to daily life such as paper, fabric, silk, colorful plastic paper, bamboo and candles. Traditional Mid-Autumn lanterns come in a variety of shapes and carry many different meanings for Vietnamese people. Among them, the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in Phan Thiet is a traditional festival, imbued with the culture of the coastal region of Phan Thiet, formed over the past several decades. Every year, this festival is held (usually on the 13th, 14th or 15th of the 8th lunar month).
Everyone's childhood has experienced the Mid-Autumn Festival gathering with family, carrying lanterns, singing, breaking cakes, watching lion dances, watching dragon dances. But as we grow older, we tend to ignore or forget those childhood moments because of our busy lives, and every time we remember them, they are just fragmented, incomplete memories. But now there is a place to find those memories, to find the childhood that has passed. That is the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province, a festival that people often call "The place to return to". This is also a traditional festival, imbued with the culture of the coastal region of Phan Thiet, which has been formed for decades in this city.
