Seeded tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh has her first win

In the first round of the Vietnam Open 2023 badminton tournament, Nguyen Thuy Linh defeated Vu Thi Trang in the women's singles event.

The match between Nguyen Thuy Linh and Vu Thi Trang took place today (September 13) at Nguyen Du Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City). The unlucky draw brought the two top Vietnamese tennis players to compete against each other early in the first round of the women's singles.

Before this match, Nguyen Thuy Linh was ranked 27th in the world, the number 1 seed of this year's Vietnam Open, while Vu Thi Trang was ranked 190th in the world.

Therefore, Nguyen Thuy Linh is rated higher than her senior in the national team. However, in the first game, Vu Thi Trang surprised everyone by winning 21-16, even though she was constantly behind.

Vu Thi Trang's 1-0 lead made the match even more exciting. Nguyen Thuy Linh tried her best in the next games. She did not want to be eliminated early when she was participating in the tournament as the defending champion.

In the second set, there was a moment when Vu Thi Trang led Nguyen Thuy Linh to 19-15, meaning she was only 2 points away from victory. But at this point, the mettle of Vietnam's number 1 female tennis player was shown. Nguyen Thuy Linh calmly won back each point, before winning 21-19 in the second set.

In game 3, the drama continued to be pushed to a climax, both sides tied 19-19, before Thuy Linh won 2 decisive points, winning game 3 with a score of 21-19, ultimately winning 2-1 (16-21, 21-19 and 21-19).

Nguyen Thuy Linh's opponent in round 2 is again a teammate on the national team, Vu Thi Anh Thu. This player defeated Chen Su Yu (Chinese Taipei) 2-0 (21-16, 21-8) in round 1.
