Based on that reality, Ba Dinh district has reconstructed and renovated Ngoc Khanh lake into a public space with landscape architecture in harmony with nature to serve the community.
Necessary requirement
Currently, Hanoi has an increasingly developed infrastructure system. However, along with the development is the increasing concretization, leading to an increase in temperature in the city center compared to the suburban districts or neighboring localities. To partly regain the balance, many countries in the world have strongly developed public spaces and always consider public spaces an important part of urban areas. Because public spaces bring many benefits both material and immaterial, they are an indispensable part of sustainable urban development.
Meanwhile, public spaces in our country's urban system have long received little attention, investment and care. In many places, the area reserved for public spaces is often encroached upon and used for improper purposes... More importantly, the lack of public spaces and open spaces will lead to consequences for health, spirit, lifestyle and social culture.
Therefore, the development and expansion of public spaces with parks, trees, green vegetation, and lakes act as the "lungs" of the city, contributing to climate regulation, minimizing negative impacts on human health due to architecture (greenhouse effect, concrete effect, heat island), weather (erratic rain and sunshine causing flooding), air pollution (fine dust, emissions, toxic substances) from construction, production, traffic, daily activities, etc.
In particular, vegetation in public spaces and parks can remedy this imbalance by cooling the air and filtering pollutants. Many studies have shown that green areas can reduce temperatures by up to 70C when there is sufficient coverage. Open spaces also help increase biodiversity, creating natural ecosystems in the heart of the city, which is of great interest and desire to many people.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, living in Cau Giay area, shared: The values of public spaces are long-term and orient the lifestyle, as well as positively impact the health and spirit of the people. Because the reality of life pressure along with over-reliance on technology is leading to a passive lifestyle with the risk of many diseases such as obesity, anxiety disorders, etc. Public spaces can help improve both the physical and mental health of residents, by encouraging interaction, playing sports, or simply freeing the mind in natural spaces. With the habit of walking in areas with lots of green space, we can reduce the risk of heart attacks, obesity, and many other diseases.
From the perspective of an expert in architecture and urban planning, Associate Professor, Dr. Architect Le Quan - Principal of Hanoi University of Architecture affirmed that in order to create a miracle, a fundamental change in the urban landscape, create a sustainable living environment, improve environmental quality, create spaces to regenerate labor for the people of Hanoi, there is nothing else but to have an orientation for development, renovation and reconstruction of green spaces, public spaces, parks, central urban flower gardens, especially in densely developed areas, urbanized villages.
Community Oriented
As an area located in the inner city, a densely populated area, Ba Dinh district is also lacking green space and public space to serve the people. With the determination to create more valuable space for the people in the area, Chairman of Ba Dinh District People's Committee Ta Nam Chien said that with the approval of the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee, Ba Dinh District People's Committee has decided to invest in upgrading and renovating technical infrastructure, urban embellishment of Ngoc Khanh Lake area and vicinity.
This is a comprehensive renovation project for the entire landscape in the area, building a walking street associated with services for people to promote and facilitate the development of service businesses in the area; creating a beautiful, civilized landscape for people to walk, play... to improve the quality of life. Especially with the construction items recreating a part of the historical relic "Giang Vo Truong" so that people can know, understand and be more proud of the history of the struggle to build and defend the country of the nation.
In particular, the reconstruction and renovation focuses on planting a series of new trees to ensure a density of 5m/tree, tying natural stone tree pots, building outdoor plastic chairs made of imitation wood made of natural stone, adding green strips, architectural decorations; installing urban equipment such as chairs, trash cans, public toilets; paving natural granite sidewalks; installing street lighting, pedestrian street gates...
In particular, after officially coming into use from October 10, in the coming time, Ba Dinh district will continue to consult and propose to the City People's Committee to renovate the embankment system, improve the water environment of Ngoc Khanh lake, as well as continue to consider investing in expanding to small alleys - a characteristic of Hanoi to increase attractiveness and uniqueness. At the same time, strengthen the management of service business activities and maintain environmental sanitation.
Chairman of Ngoc Khanh Ward People's Committee Vien Hai Tue said that in recent years, Ngoc Khanh Lake and the streets along the lake have been regularly renovated by all levels, especially upgrading technical infrastructure and arranging trees to help improve traffic infrastructure, urban order and civilization, and the surrounding landscape of the lake.
Recently, after a period of reconstruction and renovation, the project to upgrade technical infrastructure and urban embellishment of Ngoc Khanh Lake has been completed on schedule. This is an important milestone to promote and facilitate the development of business services in the area, creating a civilized and modern urban landscape and a space for entertainment, traditional education, physical exercise and sports to improve the health of local people and tourists from all over the world.
The majority of people living in Kim Ma ward, Ba Dinh district, when asked, were excited to share that the authorities' attention to investing in rebuilding, upgrading, and renovating the area around Ngoc Khanh lake is very reasonable, especially the renovation of the space for pedestrians. There have been many green items, flower gardens, and lawns added here, plus a glass roof to avoid the rain, which is very convenient for people to rest and relax.
Therefore, immediately after the policy of rebuilding and renovating this area received the consensus and support of many local people. In particular, it can be affirmed that after the project was completed, there was a clear change in the urban landscape, bringing a new look to Ngoc Khanh Lake, as well as creating more public space, green, clean, airy space for the people here.
In order for Ngoc Khanh Lake area to become an attractive and appealing destination, as well as a place for people to relax, rest and enjoy services when visiting Ba Dinh as well as the capital Hanoi, the local government will organize many unique cultural, artistic and traditional folk art activities to serve tourists.
