Strengthening prevention of harmful effects of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products

(QNO) - On May 23, the Department of Health issued a document requesting departments, branches, organizations, and localities to strengthen prevention of the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco, and shisha.

The Department of Health recommends increasing dissemination and education to all cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in agencies and units to seriously implement the provisions of the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms; disseminate the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

Build a smoke-free working environment in agencies and units, especially in schools and medical facilities. Regularly inspect and monitor the implementation of regulations on "Smoke-free Environment" and the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms.

The Department of Health requested the Department of Education and Training to direct schools to strengthen inspection and prevention of the use of tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and new generation tobacco products among students. Build a smoke-free environment, integrate tobacco harm prevention into subject lectures and educational activities at secondary school level.

At the same time, promote the responsibility of each cadre, teacher and staff in understanding the psychology, promptly detecting, supporting and preventing the behavior of electronic cigarette smoking of students. Coordinate with relevant departments and localities to strengthen inspection, detection and strict handling of cases of buying, selling and using cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco, shisha at educational institutions and at shops, grocery stores, canteens inside and outside the school gate.

The authorities have increased inspection, detection and strict handling of cases of buying, selling and using tobacco, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, shisha, and trading of synthetic drugs in the form of e-cigarettes in localities, especially at schools. Incorporate propaganda on preventing the harmful effects of tobacco into communication campaigns on traffic safety, crime prevention, social evils... for students.

The Department of Health recommends that localities strengthen inspections and detect cases of buying, selling, and using tobacco, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and shisha, and strictly handle violations. Strengthen propaganda and mobilize people, especially parents' associations, to join hands in responsibility, coordinate with schools to mobilize and advise students not to use tobacco smoke or e-cigarettes even once.

Medical facilities actively provide information about the harmful effects of tobacco products, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and new generation tobacco products to patients, their families, and people in the community.
