At this time, poultry farmers in localities are increasing the transportation and sale of raised animals, along with the cold and dry weather conditions at the end of the year... which will create favorable conditions for avian influenza (AI) to spread and break out strongly. Faced with this reality, with a large poultry population, the agricultural sector and farmers are increasing proactive measures in disease prevention and control.

Avian influenza is a type of influenza caused by a virus that spreads through many routes such as poultry transportation, wild bird migration through the air, waste, water, and farming tools... The disease is likely to occur during the change of seasons, the virus spreads very quickly, endangering all types of poultry and some strains of influenza virus can be transmitted to humans. In Thanh Hoa province, from the monitoring results in 2024, the prevalence rate of Avian influenza virus A in the province is high, up to 3.2%, when favorable conditions are met, the disease will break out; the agricultural sector recommends that localities not be negligent or subjective; proactively and seriously implement measures to prevent and control Avian influenza, prevent and minimize the spread of Avian influenza virus, especially at the end of the year.

This year, the flock of chickens of Ms. Doan Thi Dung, Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac) has been ordered by traders in large quantities many months ago, so to ensure the number of flocks, she has taken care of them such as: preparing tarpaulins to cover them when there is cold wind, providing a source of nutritious food combining powders and industrial food, vitamins... to improve resistance... According to her: "After listening to the commune's propaganda about the epidemic situation, especially at the end of the year, I kept the chickens in the coop to avoid contact with the outside environment. In addition, I have increased the hygiene of the coop, cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, vaccinated against diseases, and monitored the health of the chickens daily...".

In Trieu Son district, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phuong, Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Trieu Son district, said: “In response to information about the CGC epidemic nationwide and in the province, along with the directives of the province and the agricultural sector, the center has promptly informed livestock farmers about the actual situation of the epidemic as well as requested communes and towns to direct and guide livestock farmers to strictly implement disease prevention and control measures; fully vaccinate... In addition, prepare conditions to be ready to handle, contain, and control when an outbreak occurs, to prevent the epidemic from spreading. At the end of the year, strengthen inspections to ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety at facilities for preliminary processing, processing, consumption, trading, and transportation of poultry...”.

Recently, the Avian Influenza epidemic has occurred in two communes, Ai Thuong (Ba Thuoc) and Trung Tien (Quan Son). Currently, the epidemic has been controlled, but it has placed high demands on Avian Influenza prevention for localities in the province. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has strengthened 24/7 inspection and control at traffic quarantine stations to prevent dangers and strictly handle violations; take samples to monitor the circulation of A/H5 influenza virus and other Avian Influenza types in high-risk areas to detect early and thoroughly handle outbreaks, not allowing the disease to spread widely...

In some localities with large poultry flocks such as Yen Dinh, Vinh Loc, Tho Xuan... it is necessary to step up the implementation of a number of measures such as: strengthening information and propaganda work, instructing people to proactively monitor poultry showing signs of illness or suspected illness; absolutely do not trade, slaughter, consume sick poultry, suspected illness, throw poultry carcasses, untreated waste into the environment; strictly implement disease prevention and control measures; raise livestock in a disease-safe direction... In addition, at the end of the year, it is necessary to strictly control the transportation and trading of poultry products; facilities purchasing animals, poultry products... In case of sick poultry, suspected illness, localities need to quickly destroy poultry, declare the epidemic and implement disease prevention and control measures; organize investigations to determine the cause and source of infection for timely and effective handling, not allowing the disease to spread widely; Organize vaccination to surround the epidemic area, vaccinate all poultry flocks in the villages and communes with the epidemic. Along with that, have a contingency plan to fully prepare means, tools, materials, chemicals, to proactively prevent epidemics when they occur; regularly check and vaccinate newly emerged and unvaccinated poultry flocks. At the same time, localities in the province need to strengthen the management and control of animal transportation, including wild animals and animal products transported in the province according to regulations.
