On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, in addition to the celebration, parade, and march, people across the country eagerly watched the great ceremony through the live television broadcast "Under the Victory Flag" taking place on the evening of May 5.

The TV bridge “Under the Flag of Victory” conveys the message: The Dien Bien Phu victory is a common feat of the entire Vietnamese nation. During 9 long and arduous years of fighting against the French colonialists, the army and people across the country shared hardships and made efforts to create a Dien Bien Phu that “resounds throughout the five continents and shakes the world”. With that spirit, in addition to the main stage at the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument on D1 Hill, Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province, the program has selected 4 live TV bridge locations including: Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Kon Tum and Ho Chi Minh City to join in the heroic song of Dien Bien Phu victory.

The “Under the Victory Flag” television bridge is a large-scale, emotional program with the participation of about 1,000 professional and non-professional actors performing live at 5 bridges. With a duration of 110 minutes, important milestones of 70 years ago are shown through a combination of current experiences against a past backdrop and memories of historical witnesses, through documentary footage and songs that have gone through the years.

The contents at the 5 connecting points are combined to form a panoramic picture of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. If the Dien Bien Phu connecting point conveys the main outlines of the victory picture, the Hanoi connecting point brings a unique feature of the heroic capital, representing the contribution of intellectuals to the resistance war. The Thanh Hoa, Kon Tum, and Ho Chi Minh City connecting points are important "fire-sharing" forces with the Dien Bien battlefield.

Thanh Hoa was honored to be selected by the Central Government as one of the five live television broadcast locations. Before the broadcast, the joyful, eager, and expectant atmosphere spread throughout the streets. In particular, around Lam Son Square (Thanh Hoa City) - where the television broadcast took place, the joyful and excited atmosphere of 70 years ago when our army and people won a complete victory over the French expeditionary army seemed to revive. From officials, civil servants to freelance workers, many people arranged their time and work to come and watch this meaningful event.

Veteran Pham Ba Truc in Dong Son ward (Thanh Hoa city) shared: “This is a big event, with profound political, social and humanistic significance. Not only reviewing the revolutionary tradition of the nation, the program is also an opportunity to honor and show gratitude to those who sacrificed their blood and bones for the cause of national liberation. I and many people in the city are very interested in this event. Therefore, we came here very early to find suitable seats.”

Sharing the joy and excitement of the participants in the live TV broadcast at Lam Son Square, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang in Lam Son Ward (Thanh Hoa City) said: “The TV broadcast brought us back to the unforgettable heroic years of the nation. Through the program, I see that Dien Bien Phu is no longer a name or a title, but has become a symbol to remind us to always cherish and be proud.”

At Thanh Hoa bridge, in addition to the grand scenes vividly recreating the scene of porters transporting food by bicycle to the front line, the audience heard Mr. Tran Duc Khoi, former Political Commissar and Party Cell Secretary of Thanh Hoa 101st Portage Company, recount the arduous days serving the campaign.

At the age of 98, his legs are slow and his eyes are dim, but he is still very clear-headed. Although his health now prevents him from returning to burn incense for his comrades, it cannot stop his longing for the deceased. And no matter how harsh time is, it cannot take away the memories that have been "engraved in the heart" and become a part of the flesh and blood of the veteran who participated in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield in the past.

“Back then, the road to transport food to the front was very arduous, mainly high mountains, deep ravines, and rocks. Every three people divided into a group called a “tam tam” to support each other when going up and down the slopes. Resting during the day, traveling at night, under the surveillance of enemy planes, we still did not falter. The next person followed the previous person, following each other on the roads, creating a picture called “the whole country goes to war”, Mr. Khoi shared.

Revisiting the memories that have been eroded by time, the emotional stories that flicker in the mind and the health that has been measured by age "rare in the past and present"..., the Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline laborers who left the battlefield that year met again at the live television bridge "Under the Victory Flag" with emotions that cannot be expressed in words.

The people present here today, some of whom I have known by face and name, and many of whom I have never met. However, 70 years ago, they may have fought in a trench; climbed steep and dangerous passes to bring artillery to the battlefield; overcame dangers on the supply routes; hugged each other and cried in victory or sang the triumphant song when the flag "Determined to fight, Determined to win" flew over the roof of the De-Cat bunker... Tenderness, emotion, pride and happiness were the special feelings in the reunion of the Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline workers when they attended the television show "Under the Flag of Determination to Win".

Mr. Nguyen Huy, a youth volunteer, a soldier of Dien Bien in Quang Thanh ward (Thanh Hoa city) shared: “I was really moved, sometimes I could not hold back my tears when I looked back at the days of fighting, serving the battle full of sacrifice and hardship of our army and people. Thousands of soldiers sacrificed their lives in 56 days and nights of heroism and bravery. That demonstrated the strong patriotism, the willingness to die for the Fatherland of the entire army and people in the campaign. At this moment, I feel very honored and proud to have contributed my part to the victorious campaign”.

When standing before these very genuine “living witnesses”, today’s young generation - those who have been inheriting the heroic tradition that their ancestors have cultivated and passed on - are even more proud and determined to follow in their footsteps to create the “Dien Bien Phu miracle” on the path of innovation, integration and development.

With deep gratitude, Nguyen Phuong Linh, a student at Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared: “Through the live broadcast, I understand that many generations of young Vietnamese people yesterday were ready to dedicate their youth and lives for the peace of the nation. The blood of our aunts and uncles soaked every inch of land, every meter of trenches, creating the sacred and legendary Dien Bien Phu. Thanks to that, humanity knows the two words Vietnam as representing justice and victory. We vow to continue on the path of protecting and building the country, so that the blood of our ancestors that has been shed will not be meaningless.”

The victory of Dien Bien Phu was not only the victory of the unequal confrontation between a powerful colonialist side with modern and sophisticated weapons and a side with only primitive weapons and small manpower. It was also the victory of the spirit of solidarity "the army and the people have one will". The victory of Dien Bien Phu proved the truth that there is no fortress that cannot be destroyed, only the people's hearts and national spirit are inviolable.

And today, through the live broadcast "Under the Victory Flag", everyone has reiterated and once again affirmed that truth.
