The author of the song "Song of the Southern Land" passed away.

According to information from his family, musician Lu Nhat Vu, author of many famous songs such as "Saigon Girl Carrying Ammunition", "By the Statue of Uncle Ho", "Rest assured, Mom", "The sound of the gong overcoming the waterfall", "Song of the Southern Land", "The boy looking for his father"... has passed away after a serious illness, at the age of 89.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu, whose real name is Le Van Gat, was born in 1936 in Thu Dau Mot (Binh Duong). He participated in revolutionary activities early. After the Geneva Agreement (1954), he gathered in the North and joined the Youth Volunteer Force. Because of his musical talent, he studied and graduated from the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, and worked in the Southern Song and Dance Troupe.

In 1970, Lu Nhat Vu was assigned to return to the South, working in the Liberation Arts Subcommittee. After the country's reunification, the musician was assigned to work at the Institute of Music Research (later the Institute of Culture and Arts in Ho Chi Minh City) and held the following positions: Director of the Music Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Member of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Musicians Association, Deputy Secretary General of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association, and Party Committee member of the Ministry of Culture and Information's Grassroots Block.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu has left many marks through songs such as Ben tuong dai Bac Ho, Hay long nho me, Tieng gong qua duong thac, Bai ca dat Phuong Nam, Chu be di tim cha... which are loved by the public.

After the country's reunification, the couple Le Giang - Lu Nhat Vu participated in many works of collecting and researching regional folk songs of lasting value such as Ben Tre Folk Songs, Learning about Southern Folk Songs, Kien Giang Folk Songs, Cuu Long Folk Songs, Hau Giang Folk Songs, Song Be Folk Songs...

In September 2024, Lu Yiwu was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment after falling down the stairs. The after-effects left the musician unable to walk.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu's family said he passed away at 9:30 a.m. on March 29 at People's Hospital 115, at the age of 89. The funeral was held that evening, after which the musician's coffin was taken to the Southern National Funeral Home (5 Pham Ngu Lao, Ward 2, Go Vap District). The funeral will take place at 6 a.m. on April 2.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu was awarded the first State Prize for Literature and Arts along with many other awards and medals, including the Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Prize, the Prize for the Cause of Culture and Education...
