Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informs about the issue of checking old lessons at the beginning of class.

At the press conference on the afternoon of September 21, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the director of the Department of Education and Training only required teachers not to suddenly or unexpectedly test students at the beginning of the class... and did not prohibit testing at the beginning of the class.

According to Mr. Minh, the test takes two forms: regular and early. Regular tests include many forms, including oral tests. However, teachers need to have a test plan and test to know whether students have grasped the knowledge or not.

“The Department has a policy of not conducting surprise tests, not prohibiting oral tests at the beginning of class. Surprise tests often create or put pressure on students right from the beginning of class, making them anxious... Therefore, surprise tests are not allowed,” said Mr. Minh.

Previously, at the conference to summarize the 2022-2023 school year and deploy directions and tasks for the 2023-2024 school year, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, requested that there should be no random tests at the beginning of the class.

According to Mr. Hieu, there is still a situation where teachers suddenly call and ask questions at the beginning of the test. This puts pressure and stress on students, while many students have just come to school, have breakfast, review their lessons and worry about being asked about old lessons.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City believes that to improve quality, schools must also be happy, students must come to school happily, without stress. If teachers keep "calling and asking randomly", not only will it make students stressed, but it will also not bring any value to them.

To make students happy at school, teachers can choose many different ways to test their knowledge. In addition, teachers can also choose many ways to enter the lesson in a gentle, comfortable way, creating excitement for students when studying.
