Introduced at CES 2023 (USA), the Qi2 wireless charging standard promises to bring a safe, fast charging experience to all devices. Unlike many of the promises often exaggerated in the technology world, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has made Qi2's commitment a reality.

Also at this event, the first Qi2 products from major brands such as Belkin, Anker and Mophie also attracted a lot of attention from the technology world. Along with the increasing interest of users, questions about the difference between MagSafe and Qi2 also appeared.
MagSafe
Launched with the iPhone 12, MagSafe becomes a big competitor to Qi. Still based on the Qi platform, but MagSafe is upgraded with a magnetic ring surrounding the charging coil, bringing notable additions.

First is the rich accessories, users will have more choices from wallets, stands to backup batteries. MagSafe's magnet has opened up a world of interesting accessories for users who love convenience and fashion.
In addition, thanks to the magnetic ring, MagSafe can ensure that the phone is always in the right position. From that precise alignment, MagSafe will significantly reduce the power during charging, providing a maximum speed of up to 15W (compared to 7.5W of Qi).
Qi2
But things are changing, with the second generation of Qi appearing, bringing surprising similarities to MagSafe. This is not surprising because Apple, the "father" of MagSafe, generously provided exclusive magnet technology to WPC to develop Qi2.

Like MagSafe, Qi2 also has a 15W charging capacity and a convenient magnetic ring. But Qi2 is also special in its popularity, when it is no longer tied to the Apple ecosystem but is also compatible with many devices, including Android, promising to open a new era for wireless charging.
Who is the winner?
It’s still too early to say who wins between these two advanced wireless charging standards, but for now MagSafe still has the upper hand, especially with users who are loyal to the Apple ecosystem and love the uniqueness of MagSafe accessories.
But in the future, Qi2 with its outstanding popularity and ability to expand to many devices, even some iPhone lines both old and new support this charging standard, maybe things will soon change.
Ultimately, whether MagSafe or Qi2 wins, it’s always the users who benefit the most. As competition promises to accelerate development, it means they will bring faster, more efficient, and more convenient wireless charging products in the future.
