Snap, the company behind the messaging service Snapchat, said its custom chatbot program called My AI will be available for free to all users of the platform. Snapchat's artificial intelligence chatbot is built on the ChatGPT large language model (released by OpenAI), which was previously only available to Snapchat+ premium account holders.
This AI tool is capable of suggesting, answering questions, helping users plan and... compose haiku (a short Japanese poem) in just seconds. Users can also bring artificial intelligence into conversations with friends by typing "@MyAI" in the chat box, or naming and designing Bitmoji avatars for My AI to personalize as desired.
Users can customize My AI's profile picture on Snapchat to their liking
The move comes just over a month after OpenAI opened up access to ChatGPT to outside businesses. Snap, Instacart, and Quizlet are among the partners that have been quick to experiment with and integrate ChatGPT into their services.
Snap says My AI is far from “perfect,” but it’s still a significant step forward. The company claims that 99.5% of the chatbot’s responses are in line with the platform’s community standards, and the company has made changes and adjustments to “prevent inappropriate or harmful responses” to users.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has surprised many people with its ability to chat, answer questions, or write content fluently like a human. This artificial intelligence has created a new competition between large and small technology companies on a global scale, while accelerating the process of integrating AI into various products and services.
However, integrating ChatGPT or other large language models is risky. Smart tools are trained on massive amounts of uncontrolled input data, so they can provide misleading information or respond to users in inappropriate ways.
