"The US and Republic of Korea militaries have agreed to suspend all live-fire exercises until further notice," said USFK spokesman Colonel Ryan Donald.
The decision came after two South Korean KF-16 fighter jets accidentally dropped bombs on a village outside a training area in Pocheon, about 40km north of Seoul, during a joint live-fire exercise this week, injuring 15 people and damaging eight buildings.
According to Yonhap news agency, the USFK's move is in line with the South Korean military's earlier announcement to suspend all live-fire drills until authorities determine the exact cause of the bombing through an investigation.
According to the South Korean Air Force, the cause of the mistaken bombing is believed to be due to the error of one of the fighter pilots, who entered the wrong target coordinates before takeoff. The South Korean Air Force has suspended flights for most of its aircraft after the two fighter jets caused the above incident.
Meanwhile, USFK confirmed that no US Air Force aircraft participated in this week's live-fire exercise. USFK also said the two allies plan to conduct a large-scale computer-simulated spring exercise as scheduled next week.
