In the first 8 months of 2024, the total estimated revenue of 56 suppliers from the provinces/cities of the Southeast region in Satra's retail system reached about 90 billion VND. Of the 5,000 products of the Southeast region, the Mekong Delta region alone has 1,000 products from 30 suppliers, with an estimated revenue of more than 20 billion VND.

According to SATRA representative, these figures show that the regional linkage development strategy is promoting SATRA's competitive advantages in the fields of production, wholesale and retail with a sustainable development trend.

Expanding the presence of local products

Since 2012, SATRA has been actively participating in regional linkage programs, contributing to socio-economic development by exploiting the potential and advantages of localities across Vietnam. This is in line with the overall socio-economic development strategy of the country, helping Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces solve challenges in goods output and promote growth.

Within the framework of this mission, SATRA has implemented many activities to support the distribution of OCOP (One Commune One Product) products and regional specialty goods. This retail group focuses on helping local cooperatives, manufacturers and farmers meet the necessary standards to distribute products through SATRA's extensive retail system.

Special OCOP products are given priority in SATRA's retail system, with separate display areas, making it easy for consumers and tourists to access these regional specialties. As of the first eight months of 2024, revenue from OCOP products has exceeded VND 4.6 billion, receiving many high reviews for quality and value.

"We have been accompanying the economic and social development cooperation program between Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities in the Southern Key Economic Zone, the Southeast Region, and the Mekong Delta Region," said a SATRA representative.

Currently, there are about 5,000 products from 56 suppliers from the provinces/cities of the Southeast region being sold at the SATRA retail system, with estimated revenue in the first 8 months of the year reaching over 90 billion VND. For the Mekong Delta region, there are 1,000 products from 30 suppliers, with estimated revenue reaching over 20 billion VND.

The trade connection with provinces/cities across the country has brought local products and regional specialties to the Ho Chi Minh City market quickly, promptly meeting the increasingly diverse and growing needs of consumers in the Southern region.

Strengthening connections, improving product quality

Despite many achievements, SATRA representatives acknowledged that the system still faces a number of challenges. Many producers and cooperatives in the linked regions still operate on a small scale with limited production capacity.

Packaging standards are often substandard, and manufacturers face difficulties with logistics, leading to supply chain disruptions and higher prices for consumers. In addition, OCOP manufacturers are not widely known, making it difficult to gain product acceptance in the market.

Along with that, consumers are still not familiar with and do not know much about, understand clearly about OCOP products, so they do not distinguish and accept the price of these products is slightly higher than similar products. The units producing OCOP products also do not have a clear understanding of the information, so they often do not prepare enough documents related to the products when bringing goods to the supermarket system.

Some companies, business households, and production facilities are still small in scale and have low supply capacity, so they have difficulty stabilizing the quantity of goods supplied. OCOP products have not invested in researching the form to attract consumers.

To address these challenges, SATRA has proposed that provinces establish trading enterprises to centralize OCOP products and optimize the distribution process to Ho Chi Minh City. This will help reduce logistics costs and manage contracts with local retailers more effectively.

In addition, SATRA is committed to creating favorable conditions for OCOP suppliers such as reducing transportation costs, flexible payment terms and profit sharing. The retail group also increases efforts to promote OCOP products through social networks, websites and mobile applications, as well as outstanding promotions at stores.

Units in the SATRA retail system will also prioritize arranging separate display locations for OCOP product groups, regional specialty products, products of green-certified enterprises, and "responsible green tick" products so that consumers can easily recognize them.

In addition, retailers will also create conditions for businesses to organize product introductions and trials so that consumers can experience before purchasing. In addition, SATRA's regular shopping guide publication will dedicate a special page to introduce this group of products.

By promoting regional connectivity, SATRA not only strengthens the supply chain but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the whole country, ensuring sustainable development for all stakeholders.

"With the above solutions, we have effectively connected and cooperated with many suppliers across the country to distribute and consume OCOP products and regional specialties. This is not only an opportunity for economic development for both parties, but also an opportunity to contribute to protecting and promoting the cultural and traditional values of each province in particular and of Vietnam in general," said a SATRA representative.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, SATRA continues to develop its main business lines of trade - services, production - processing, import and export. In particular, the regional linkage development strategy is one of the goals to promote SATRA's competitive advantages in the fields of production, wholesale and retail in sustainable development.
