Clip: Thu - Phuc On the morning of October 5, we were present at the landslide site on the Lam River bank, passing through Hamlet 1, Lang Son Commune (Anh Son). Standing on Tri Le Bridge looking down, along this section of the river, the landslide devastated the land, gnawing deep into people's houses. Photo: Hoai Thu According to local residents, on October 3 and 4, the Lam River receded after days of rising, dragging thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil down the riverbed, creating a terrifying landslide. Mr. Nguyen Quang Linh's family (in the photo) has a land area of 700 square meters, but after two landslides, it now only has about 400 square meters left. Photo: Thanh Phuc Rocks and soil continue to collapse into the river through increasingly large cracks. Photo: Hoai Thu The ground is weak, with deep cracks stretching along the gardens of 10 households. Photo: Hoai Thu The landslide swept away many outbuildings of the people such as chicken coops, storage for agricultural tools, vegetable gardens, etc. Photo: Thanh Phuc These 10 households were originally fishermen. In 1997, the households gradually "came ashore" and bought land from the commune to settle down. Large households had 700 - 800m2, small households had 150 - 200m2. Now, after the landslide, the land of all households has been reduced, only half or 2/3 of the area in the Land Ownership Certificate. Photo: Hoai Thu Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ca, head of Hamlet 1, Lang Son Commune, said: “The landslide has been happening for many years. Every year there is a little landslide, but this time it is the most serious. The landslide has encroached on people's houses, if it rains heavily it will be very dangerous. It threatens people's lives and property.” Photo: Thanh Phuc People are currently very worried and insecure. Photo: Hoai Thu Looking from the riverbed up, the landslide was tens of meters high. Mr. Pham Van Bac, whose house is close to the landslide, said: "My family and many other households have been worried about their houses collapsing and being swept away into the river for the past few days and nights, so we have been keeping watch and not daring to sleep. The people's wish is for the authorities at all levels to pay attention and soon come up with solutions for the people, to shore up the riverbank and prevent landslides." Photo: Thanh Phuc Currently, the authorities of Lang Son commune and Anh Son district have put up warning ropes to warn people not to enter the landslide area. Mr. Dang Ngoc Thien - Chairman of Lang Son Commune People's Committee said: "Based on the people's feedback, on October 3, the commune sent officials to grasp the situation, count the damage, put up ropes and set up barriers to warn people not to go out to live and produce in the landslide area to avoid danger. At the same time, report the situation to the district for solutions". Photo: Hoai Thu
The leader of Anh Son District People's Committee said that through preliminary assessment, the landslide length is 120 m, width is 20 m, depth is 12 m, landslide area is estimated at 15,000 m3. Currently, the cracks are getting deeper, the risk of further landslides is very high. Directly affecting the property and lives of 10 households living in that area.
The Commune People's Committee has inspected and worked with the Executive Committee of Village 1 and affected households, assigning specific responsibilities for households to proactively relocate their assets and protect their families' lives when there is a risk of further landslides. At the same time, protective ropes have been put up and areas at high risk of landslides have been banned. Currently, Anh Son district has made a submission and report to the Provincial People's Committee to request funding and have the earliest remedial plan.
