The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that on March 28, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien signed a directive requesting Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV), Dong Bac Corporation... to carry out tasks to ensure electricity supply during the dry season months this year.

Ministry of Industry and Trade requests EVN to develop a scenario to ensure electricity supply

This Directive continues to thoroughly instruct units to strictly, resolutely and effectively implement the contents and tasks assigned in Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated February 14 of the Prime Minister on ensuring electricity supply, coal and gas supply for electricity production; direction of the Minister of Industry and Trade in decisions approving the Plan for electricity supply and operation of the national power system in 2024; Chart of coal supply for electricity production in 2024; Plan for gas supply for electricity production in 2024.

In addition, the Minister of Industry and Trade requested EVN to proactively develop flexible scenarios to respond to possible unusual and extreme developments, ensuring electricity supply.

EVN must closely follow weather developments (temperature, hydrology), and the operation of power sources to adjust and regulate large hydropower reservoirs in the North to ensure backup for the power system during the peak months of the dry season this year. When there are unusual impacts on ensuring power supply security, EVN will report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for consideration and direction.

EVN was also assigned to direct power corporations, especially the Northern Power Corporation and Hanoi Power Corporation, to continue reviewing and preparing plans to adjust electricity loads, focusing on households that use a lot of electricity (iron, steel, cement, etc.) to deal with the possibility of an imbalance in supply and demand in the Northern power system.

EVN and power corporations coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces nationwide to promote propaganda about the electricity supply plan, difficulties in supplying electricity to the national power system, especially for the North this year so that the whole society understands, shares difficulties with the electricity industry, implements electricity saving, and uses electricity reasonably and effectively.

No shortage of fuel for electricity production

Also in the newly issued directive, the Minister of Industry and Trade requested that PVN, TKV and Dong Bac Corporation coordinate with EVN and investors of thermal power plants to ensure adequate, continuous and stable supply of fuel (coal, gas, oil) for power generation needs and strictly implement commitments in signed contracts and commercial agreements on fuel purchase and supply.

Units direct and urge the supervision, inspection and consolidation of equipment of power plants under their management, ensuring improved operational reliability and power generation capacity; preparing spare materials for power plant equipment to promptly fix problems and put them into operation as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade requested EVN to direct the National Power System Dispatch Center to update and establish operating methods that closely follow reality and are suitable for actual developments of electricity load, weather conditions (temperature, hydrology), operating conditions of the power system, and the electricity market.

The National Power System Control Center reasonably mobilizes power sources in the national power system to ensure adequate power supply for socio-economic development and to serve people's daily needs.
