Chairman of Xieng My Commune People's Committee Lo Van Lich excitedly said: Xieng My is a remote and disadvantaged commune of Tuong Duong district. At the Party Congress for the 2020 - 2025 term, the commune identified the advantages and disadvantages to set out targets and tasks for comprehensive economic, cultural, social development and new rural construction. When first implementing the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress in difficult conditions, the villages only achieved 2/13 new rural criteria, rural infrastructure such as transportation, irrigation, domestic water, etc. were not synchronous and seriously degraded; educational, medical, cultural and sports activities were very limited; the material and spiritual life of the people still had many difficulties, the rate of poor households was high.
To implement the targets of the Party Congress for the 2020 - 2025 term, the commune has determined to focus on promoting propaganda and mobilizing people to change the structure of crops and livestock, apply technical advances in production; proactively integrate programs and projects under the 3 National Target Programs to support and invest in developing models of specialty plants and animals of indigenous origin in the direction of goods such as: models of raising ducks, growing fruit trees, medicinal plants, high-yield cassava, hybrid corn, raising cattle and poultry, etc.
After nearly 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the Party Congress, Xieng My commune has mobilized resources from programs, projects and contributions from the people to focus on socio-economic development and infrastructure construction. Thanks to the joint efforts and consensus of the Party Committee, the government and the people, by the end of 2024, the commune had completed the targets set by the Congress. From a remote and difficult commune, Xieng My today has truly "changed its skin and flesh". The average income per capita of the commune reached 29 million VND/person/year (Phây village alone reached over 40 million VND/person/year), 100% of hamlets achieved the title of cultural hamlet, nearly 90% of households achieved the title of cultural family, maintaining the achievement of universal primary education, the commune meets national standards in health care. Many households have proactively renewed their thinking, become more dynamic in economic development to escape poverty and become rich legitimately, the poverty rate has decreased to more than 20%.
Following Ms. Loc Thi Van, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, to Khe Quynh resettlement village, I clearly felt the breath of Spring filling every alley and house. More than 15 years ago, Khe Quynh people were among the resettlement migrants of Ban Ve hydropower plant, the whole village moved from Tom village, Luan Mai commune to here. In the early days of resettlement, people's lives faced many difficulties, but now they have changed and developed stably.
