Launching anti-drug campaign

On the morning of June 15, 2023, Phan Ri Cua town, Tuy Phong district held a drug prevention and control launching ceremony with the participation of local leaders and a large number of cadres, civil servants, union members, police forces, Hoa Minh border guard station and students in the area.

The launching ceremony is in response to the peak month of drug prevention (June 1-30) and the international day against drug abuse on June 26 every year. This creates solidarity, unity, and mobilizes the strength of the entire political system in the fight against the drug problem.

Phan Ri Cua town is a key area of the province in terms of drugs, with 21/21 neighborhoods having drug addicts. As of June 2023, there were 156 drug addicts in the locality. The number of drug addicts receiving methadone replacement treatment was 76. The number of people with criminal records in the locality was 214. Following the direction of the province and district, Phan Ri Cua town has established many models of security and order, drug prevention, and stepped up the destruction of complex drug hotspots and gathering places to transform the area. In the first 6 months of 2023, the police force caught 15 cases/17 subjects with acts of illegal possession and use of drugs; the town police have prepared records to propose sending 52 people to compulsory drug rehabilitation facilities according to Decree 116 of the government.

However, it is forecasted that the drug situation in the area will still be complicated. Through the launching ceremony, the leaders of Phan Ri Cua Town People's Committee launched a high point in drug prevention. The key task is to promote the solidarity of the entire political system, the coordination between the police, border guards and the neighborhood, thereby firmly grasping the number of addicts, complicated drug points and hotspots. Thereby, promoting changes in the content and form of drug prevention propaganda, having a plan to attack and suppress all types of crimes, complicated drug points and hotspots.

The leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Youth Union of Phan Ri Cua town also called on cadres, union members, members and students in the area to join hands with the locality in drug prevention. Accordingly, each cadre, union member, member and student should be an active propagandist on drug prevention to their family, relatives and friends to say no to drugs. Thereby, contributing to the locality in transforming the area and cleaning up drug abuse in the locality.

After the ceremony, the police, military, Hoa Minh border guard station, and youth union members paraded on the main streets of the town to propagate and demonstrate their determination to successfully carry out the peak month of drug prevention in 2023.
