A land of unwavering loyalty
During the resistance war against the US, Binh Thuan province had a well-established system of resistance bases. These served as headquarters for the resistance leadership of local Party committees and governments, training grounds for local armed units and main army units, and centers for agricultural production to provide food and supplies for the resistance, as well as places for treating wounded soldiers. Many of these bases also served as headquarters for the Regional Party Committee, the Inter-Provincial Party Committee, the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, and the southernmost part of Central Vietnam. Importantly, these bases were also key locations for receiving cadres, soldiers, weapons, military equipment, medicine, and food supplies from the North to support the Southern battlefield in general and Binh Thuan in particular. Among them, the Sa Lon base area, located in Dong Giang commune, Ham Thuan Bac district today, was where the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee directed the resistance for the longest period (over 8 years). The Sa Lon base served crucial functions, ensuring the secrecy and safety of agencies and units, guaranteeing smooth leadership and direction, including providing on-site logistical and material support, and training cadres to meet the demands of the local revolutionary movement. This base provided a strategic corridor connecting to the North, the Central Committee of the Southern Region, Zone VI, and the provinces of Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Tuyen Duc, and Ninh Thuan . It also connected guerrilla bases in the plains of Ham Thuan, Ham Tan, Khu Le, Hoa Da, Tuy Phong, Tanh Linh, and Hoai Duc, as well as "hidden bases" on the outskirts of Phan Thiet, forming a vast, interwoven, and interconnected network that served as a local rear base for the people's war. Along with the progress of the resistance war against the US, a complete system of bases connecting areas throughout the province, inter-provincial areas, and between provinces and zones was gradually established. This system of resistance bases, especially the Sa Lon base, served as a central point for receiving directives and instructions from higher levels, a place for discussing resistance strategies, planning and organizing forces, and a launching pad for attacks by the armed forces and people of Binh Thuan throughout the years of the resistance war against the US. The victory on April 19, 1975, liberating Phan Thiet town in Binh Thuan province, has gone down in national history as a glorious milestone, changing the situation and creating momentum for the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, leading to the Great Spring Victory of 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country.
Working together with one heart and mind to build our homeland.
Fifty years after liberation, the military and people of Binh Thuan province continue to work together to build a stronger and more prosperous homeland, worthy of the glorious patriotic tradition of this steadfast land. While during the war, Binh Thuan was known as a steadfast land in the southernmost part of Central Vietnam with glorious victories, 50 years after liberation, Binh Thuan is known as a region developing in many fields, especially energy, tourism, and industry. After liberation, Binh Thuan faced numerous difficulties and challenges left by the war, particularly the serious deterioration of infrastructure and repeated droughts, which caused a series of hardships and challenges for the people of the province. However, the Party Committee, military, and people of Binh Thuan province continue to uphold revolutionary heroism, unity, and solidarity, working together to heal the wounds of war, overcome difficulties, and strive for progress. Many irrigation, transportation, electricity, health, education, and cultural facilities have been invested in and built. Especially in recent years, with the new rural development program receiving the consensus and joint efforts of the people, infrastructure serving people's lives and production has been invested in, creating a breakthrough in the province's rural areas. Along with that, the province has gradually formed several specialized crop areas with advantages combined with production chain linkages, especially dragon fruit and rice... For many consecutive years, the province's economy has maintained a fairly strong growth momentum. In 2024 alone, the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) increased by 7.25% compared to the previous year. The restructuring of economic sectors continues to be promoted, with balanced development across all sectors, and the province's potential advantages are being utilized and exploited more effectively. State budget revenue in 2024 reached VND 10,700 billion, an increase of over 2.14% compared to the same period. The economic structure continued to shift in the right direction, gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture and increasing the proportion of industry and services. Per capita income reached VND 58.4 million, an increase of 7.5%. Revenue from tourism activities reached VND 25,530 billion, an increase of 14.44% compared to the previous year. Goods exports increased by 11.26%, showing positive signs of export businesses in seeking and expanding markets amidst the challenging global economic conditions. In particular, foreign cooperation, investment promotion, and improving the investment environment received attention, creating favorable conditions to attract non-budgetary capital. The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country is an opportunity for us to review the glorious history of our nation, look back at the journey of national construction and development, and at the same time gain a deeper understanding of the values and lessons learned from the practical experiences of our nation's struggle. This will further strengthen our resolve and determination in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, transforming the glorious achievements of the past into a driving force to fulfill our historical mission in the new era - an era of striving for prosperity, civilization, happiness, and well-being for the Vietnamese nation.
