Mr. David Albon and Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu presented certificates and awards to honor the two students with the best achievements in the 2024 Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education exam.

On March 15, EMG Education Group held a ceremony to award Pearson Edexcel international general certificates for primary, secondary and high school levels, including iPrimary, iLowerSecondary and International GCSE to more than 700 students of the integrated English program.

At the same time, at the ceremony, leaders of the Department of Education and Training, EMG Education, and Pearson Education Group of the UK, honored students who had excellent achievements in the Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education 2024 exam.

Specifically, 11 students won the Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards - students with the highest scores in Vietnam in each subject - and 33 students won the Excellence Awards - students with excellent scores in all three subjects: math, English and science.

In addition, the ceremony also specially honored the two students with the highest achievements: Tran Ha Thanh Truc, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, achieved a perfect score (9 on the international scale of 1-9) in all 3 subjects, including the highest score in English in Vietnam, and Van Hoang Minh Anh, a student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (at the time of registration for the exam, he was a student at Le Quy Don Secondary School, District 3), achieved the highest score in math in the world.

According to statistics from the Pearson Edexcel Examination Board, 99% of students achieved good or above results in mathematics at all three levels, of which 80% achieved good or above. At the secondary level, 74% of students achieved good or excellent results in mathematics, higher than the global rate of 49%. 100% of high school students taking the International GCSE exam achieved results in all three subjects: English, mathematics, and science. Of which, the rate of students achieving perfect scores in mathematics was 35%, higher than the global rate of 20%. In addition, in English as a Second Language (ESL), the rate of students achieving good scores was 54%, twice as high as the global rate of 24%. The rate of students achieving good scores in science was 54%, higher than the global rate of 36%.

Mr. David Albon, Director of International Programs of Pearson Education Group, said: "Pearson is honored to accompany the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and EMG Education for more than 10 years of implementing the integrated English program in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City and recording many excellent international standard assessment results. One of the most impressive achievements we have seen is that up to 54% of integrated English program students achieved excellent scores (score 7 or higher on the international scale of 1-9) in English as a Second Language (ESL) of the International Baccalaureate GCSE program, this figure is twice as high as the rate of international students taking the exam in the same subject, at the same level. This shows that Vietnamese students, with the right context and conditions, can not only learn English well but also acquire knowledge of math and science entirely in English, using English as a tool to apply practice in research, application of technology and high-level thinking".

At the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, shared with the students: "Today's success is the sweet fruit of your whole process of striving and you deserve to be honored for your achievements. With the knowledge and practical skills that you have learned in the integrated English program, I believe that your future will be full of success, with many open opportunities to step out into the world."

"Sometimes I fall because of my phone"

In the last exam, I tried my best to do well. However, the result still surprised me. Because, I think many other people are better than me.

For the integrated English program, during class, teachers do not simply teach theory but also organize activities to make students interested in learning.

The knowledge taught is selective, has a roadmap and is improved every year.

For studying, time management and organization are very important. In class, when the teacher is lecturing, I try to concentrate to immediately understand the knowledge in class. Especially after each class, I spend time doing homework and reviewing the knowledge I learned that day.

Balancing between studying and playing is also very important. As a student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, people will think that students only know how to bury their heads in studying, but that is not true. Besides studying, I also play sports, spend time reading books, and drawing to improve my soft skills.

I myself sometimes fall because of my phone. To start a long semester, I will use my phone to record myself. Then, I will review the journey above to see how hard I have tried and tried during the past time.

To study effectively, my notebook may not be neat and clean because I often take notes on the issues that the teacher notes. That is what helps me remember the lesson for a long time. This makes me interested and helps me find more information.

Before important exams, I consolidate the main content and review the notes I have taken throughout the study process. From there, I will have broader knowledge and grasp the main information.

For me, learning never stops so I will continue to improve. English is an important language, the key to open the door to the world.
