Quynh Phu: Caring for children in difficult circumstances

Towards children in difficult circumstances, Quynh Phu district organizes many specific and practical activities to help them feel secure and improve in their studies.

Quynh Phu district leaders presented gifts to children of Dong Tien Kindergarten (Quynh Phu) on the occasion of International Children's Day 2023.

No child left behind

In the hot summer sun, we visited the family of Tran Vu Huy, Dao Dong village, An Le commune. The house is about 40 square ^meters wide, surrounded by peeling walls, the tiled roof has shifted over time to see the sunlight, and is also the place for 6 people to live every day. It is known that Huy's circumstances are very difficult, his family is among the poor households of the commune, his father had a work accident and cannot do heavy work, his mother does not have a stable job; the family also has an elderly grandmother and 2 young children. Despite the difficult circumstances, Huy has achieved high academic achievements for many years. To encourage his efforts, through a field survey, at the end of May 2023, the "Tiep suc den truong" fund coordinated with a number of units in the district to encourage and donate 100 million VND to support his family to build a new house, creating conditions for him to have a stable life and study with peace of mind. Touched by the attention and help from organizations and groups, Huy confided: I am very happy to be living in a new house soon and will try to study better to respond to everyone's attention.

For Hoa Huong Dieu, a student in class 9A2, An Duc Primary and Secondary School, although her family is not poor, her family's life is very difficult. Of the 5 people in the family, 3 are in poor health, including an elderly grandmother who is often sick, a disabled father, and a sister with a mental illness; all activities in the family depend on a few million VND from her mother who works as a factory worker. Despite the difficulties, from grade 3 to grade 9 Dieu has always been an excellent student at the district level. At the launching ceremony of the month of action for children this year, receiving gifts from the district's child protection fund, Dieu was very happy: Every year, on holidays and Tet for children, I receive gifts from organizations, units, and individuals. I am very grateful and will try to be good and study well.

For children to develop comprehensively

Quynh Phu district currently has more than 5,000 children under 16 years old, of which about 800 are in difficult circumstances. In recent years, in order for children to develop comprehensively, taking care of their health, material and spiritual needs, especially those of children in difficult circumstances, has always been a task that has received attention and focus from all levels, sectors and localities.

Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Mui, Deputy Head of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Quynh Phu district, said: Every year, the district's children's protection fund calls on and mobilizes organizations, units and individuals inside and outside the district to support funds to take care of the children. From the received funds, the district takes the lead in coordinating visits and giving gifts to children in especially difficult circumstances on the occasion of holidays and Tet with a total value of hundreds of millions of VND; supporting free screening and medical examination for a number of children in especially difficult circumstances... In particular, during the month of action for children that was launched by the district at the end of May, the district's children's protection fund also mobilized over 300 million VND from organizations, units, unions and individuals. The entire amount received will be used by the district's children's protection fund to continue organizing activities to take care of children, especially children in difficult circumstances, to create a healthy and useful playground for them to develop comprehensively.

Along with the district's child protection fund, the district's organizations and unions always launch movements and implement many activities to care for children.

Ms. Giang Thi Minh Phuong, President of the Red Cross Society of Quynh Phu district, said: To support children, especially children in difficult circumstances, the Red Cross Society at all levels in the district has called on and launched many activities to organizations, units, and schools such as raising pigs for charity, sponsoring, donating bicycles, and supporting children to go to school programs... to help them ease their difficulties and continue to nurture their dreams of studying. Since the beginning of the year, the Society has mobilized money and goods worth over 852 million VND to award scholarships, milk, and Tet gifts... to over 3,300 students in difficult circumstances. This will be a source of motivation for them to continue to strive to excel in their studies.
