By 2030, the export turnover of cassava and cassava products of Quang Ngai will reach 150-180 million USD.

This is one of the main contents of the Plan to implement the Project on sustainable development of the cassava industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050 in the area, recently issued by the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province.

Quang Ngai farmers harvest cassava.

The specific goal of this Plan is that by 2030, the province's fresh cassava output will reach about 250-300 thousand tons, ensuring the supply of raw materials for deep processing of some products (starch, ethanol...).

The cassava growing area using standard quality varieties reaches 40-50%; the cassava growing area applying sustainable farming processes reaches 50%; the export turnover of cassava and cassava products reaches 150-180 million USD.

By 2050, Quang Ngai's cassava industry will continue to develop sustainably, with 70-80% of the cassava growing area applying sustainable farming processes, the output of fresh cassava used for deep processing of some products (starch, ethanol...) accounting for over 90%, and the export turnover of cassava and cassava products reaching about 180-200 million USD.

Regarding production development orientation, by 2030, the cassava growing area of the whole province will be about 12-14 thousand hectares, fresh root output will reach 250-300 thousand tons, oriented to be distributed in 2 key areas. In which, mountainous areas: planting area will reach 9-10 thousand hectares, concentrated in the districts: Son Ha, Son Tay, Minh Long, Tra Bong, Ba To...; plain areas: planting area will reach 3-4 thousand hectares, concentrated in the districts: Son Tinh, Tu Nghia, Binh Son, Nghia Hanh...

Orientation for cassava processing development, by 2030, continue to encourage economic sectors to invest in building new or upgrading factories processing cassava products (starch, ethanol...).

At the same time, encourage the development of enterprises processing confectionery, glucose syrup, instant noodles, animal feed, etc. using cassava and cassava starch as raw materials, prioritizing the use of new technology and advanced technology in cassava processing to improve quality, maximize the use of by-products, and protect the environment.

For cassava processing sector, by 2030 the total processing capacity in the province is expected to reach 250-300 thousand tons of fresh tubers/year.

Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee assigned districts, towns, cities, relevant departments and branches to determine the scale of concentrated cassava production areas in accordance with provincial planning, local planning and other relevant planning.

Synchronously implement solutions to support attracting business investment, promote the formation of linkage chains; support the development of cooperatives and cooperative groups; focus on supporting the establishment of new ones and improving the operational efficiency of cassava production cooperatives.

Based on practical conditions, enterprises cooperate with cassava-growing households to build raw material areas; supply input materials (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.); transfer science and technology, provide technical guidance and consume products. Research and create new cassava varieties with high yield, high starch content, and resistance to harmful organisms.

Regarding product consumption markets, for the international market: continue to implement solutions to maintain the existing cassava consumption market; at the same time, promote trade promotion activities, expand markets, remove trade barriers to create favorable conditions for Quang Ngai cassava products to be widely consumed in the international market .

For the domestic market: in addition to encouraging the development of enterprises processing cassava products; localities need to continue to attract enterprises processing confectionery, glucose syrup, instant noodles, animal feed, etc. to use cassava and cassava starch as raw materials to increase the value chain of the cassava industry.

Cassava is one of the main crops in Quang Ngai province, grown in many areas, especially in mountainous areas, contributing positively to hunger eradication and poverty reduction for the people. However, due to the impact of mosaic disease, from 2022 to present, the cassava growing area in Quang Ngai has gradually decreased, ranging from 13,098 ha to 4,082 ha/year.
