Bac Ninh has had many special policies to honor and support artisans, develop original Quan Ho villages, Quan Ho practice villages, Quan Ho clubs across the country as well as the Vietnamese community abroad.
In addition, the province also has its own policies to encourage and motivate young people, especially teenagers and children, to participate in learning, practicing and performing Quan Ho folk songs. This is an effective method to preserve and promote this unique traditional cultural value of Bac Ninh and Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan hopes that by organizing the program "Quintessence of Bac Ninh culture - Colors of Dong Ho paintings", Bac Ninh also hopes to receive the support of ambassadors, chief diplomatic representatives, people and guests so that "Dong Ho folk painting craft" can be included by UNESCO in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Protection of Humanity.
Affirming that culture is not only the source of identity, but also an endogenous resource for sustainable development, an important connotation in foreign affairs activities, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van emphasized: The land of Bac Ninh - Kinh Bac with thousands of years of culture, a sacred land and talented people always holds a special position. This is the birthplace of the Ly Dynasty - the Dynasty that opened the brilliant period of Dai Viet civilization, the origin of sweet Quan Ho melodies - a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, and the birthplace of Dong Ho folk paintings, a type of woodcut art imbued with Vietnamese identity.
Proud and appreciating the unique cultural values of the Bac Ninh-Kinh Bac region, especially the Dong Ho folk painting heritage, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van highly appreciated the organization of the event "Bac Ninh Cultural Quintessence - Dong Ho Colors" at Hoan Kiem Lake - the heart of the capital Hanoi, the City for Peace, the Creative City honored by UNESCO - as a symbol of the intersection between tradition and modernity.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam currently owns 71 heritages and titles recognized by UNESCO, including 16 intangible heritages. That is a source of pride, but also a great responsibility.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Bac Ninh province and other departments, ministries and sectors are making efforts with the community and international friends to make Dong Ho folk painting a World Intangible Cultural Heritage in need of urgent protection.
"With sincere cooperation and love for traditional values, we can together write new chapters for the heritage story - not only to preserve, but also to develop and spread that heritage to future generations" - the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed.
Dong Ho paintings are a traditional genre of paintings, reflecting the customs, beliefs and daily life of the Vietnamese people. However, the painting profession is facing many challenges and requires timely conservation measures.
Currently, the dossier to nominate Dong Ho painting making to UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding is under review and is expected to be appraised in 2025.
Within the framework of the program, the exhibition booths introduced to the people and tourists the unique cultural products of Bac Ninh including Dong Ho paintings, Phu Lang pottery, Dai Bai bronze casting, Xuan Hoi bamboo and rattan weaving, Phu Khe and Dong Ky fine art wood, and OCOP products of the province.
In addition, visitors can also enjoy Quan Ho folk songs, calligraphy and other traditional art forms.
