China and the United States need to choose dialogue over confrontation and win-win cooperation over competition in a "zero-sum game."
Chinese Premier Li Qiang made the call during a meeting with US Senator Steve Daines and several US businessmen on the sidelines of the China Development Forum 2025 on March 23.
At the meeting, Premier Li Qiang affirmed that relations between China and the United States "have reached an important turning point," and expressed hope that Washington will cooperate with Beijing to promote the stable and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
He also stressed the importance of economic and trade cooperation in China-US relations. He called on the two countries to strengthen cooperation to address issues such as trade imbalances.
Finally, Premier Li Qiang stressed that China always welcomes American companies, as well as companies from around the world, to share development opportunities in China.
He affirmed Beijing's commitment to addressing the concerns of foreign businesses and continuing to foster a healthy business environment.
For its part, the US delegation said that US companies are willing to continue investing in China, strengthen dialogue and cooperation to achieve common interests and win-win results, and work hard to promote the sustainable development of bilateral relations.
Steve Daines is the first U.S. congressman to visit Beijing since President Donald Trump took office in January. He was joined by leaders of several U.S. corporations in the meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, including FedEx Corp. CEO Raj Subramaniam, Boeing Senior Vice President Brendan Nelson, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.
The meeting took place in the context of the recent deterioration in relations between the world's two largest economies, when President Trump imposed comprehensive tariffs, threatening China's trade prospects./.
