Deputy Director embezzled more than 2.1 billion VND for online gambling

On November 20, the People's Court of Da Nang City opened a trial of Lam Hoc (42 years old, residing in An Hai Bac ward, Son Tra district, Da Nang city) for the crime of "Embezzlement of property".

According to the indictment, in early June 2022, Hoc was recruited and appointed by Wilab Solutions Joint Stock Company as Deputy Sales Director for the Central region.

On June 2, 2022, the Company changed its name to Carpla Joint Stock Company and Hoc was appointed Deputy Sales Director of the Central region, with full authority to decide on negotiations, sign all types of quotations, sales invoices, purchase and sale contracts, and car consignments in the Central region.

On September 27, 2022, Carpla Joint Stock Company Branch in Da Nang was established, headquartered at Savico Complex, Pham Hung Street, Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City and Hoc was assigned to be responsible for business and asset management of the branch.

Lam Hoc was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The main business activities of Carpla Da Nang branch are consignment, purchase, refurbishment and sale of used cars.

During the period from September 2022 to December 2022, Hoc conducted many car sales at the Carpla Da Nang branch.

Taking advantage of the trust of the company's leaders, Hoc directed employees to submit for approval of car purchases and used his assigned authority to approve the purchase and sale of 7 cars, thereby embezzling 2,117 billion VND from the company.

Hoc used all the embezzled money for personal expenses and online gambling and lost it all.

In court, Hoc confessed to his crime and also influenced his family to recover the amount of 47 million VND. Therefore, the People's Court of Da Nang City sentenced Lam Hoc to 18 years in prison for the crime of "embezzlement of property".
