Showing off happiness online: Showing off a little is fun, showing off a lot is nonsense

"My child used to be a bad student, but now he is very happy."

Nghe các ông bà khoe con cái sướng lắm khi đi xuất khẩu lao động, mẹ tôi cũng chạnh lòng

Hearing grandparents boast about how happy their children are when they go to work abroad, my mother also felt sad.

Every time I go back to my hometown, in the friendly conversation of my neighbors, I sometimes hear stories like a father wearing sandals coming to my house to drink green tea, mainly to tell the neighbors how successful his child is.

"My son used to be a bad student, but now he's very happy. He works abroad and sends home more than a hundred million a month. And the work there isn't that hard, he just works in a greenhouse all year round."

Then the story continued when a neighbor told about their children's happiness. That their third daughter got married, her husband was also poor but worked hard to become the owner of a timber broker in the Central Highlands. Every time she returned for Tet, she gave her parents 20-30 million VND to spend. Every time she returned home, she had her own driver, the most prestigious person in the village.

My mother was a farmer who only finished 3rd grade. She never cared about who had more money than who, but only cared about raising her children to study, go out into society, and work for the "government".

But when life changed so quickly, her children worked for meager salaries like that, while people who raised their children without going to college still built houses and bought cars, so sometimes she felt sad.

At times like that, I lie next to my mother and whisper to her to help her understand. I say that each person has a destiny, both good and bad karma. My mother is poor now, but she is also happy.

If you go to work abroad, you will have quick money, but it is also hard work. Making money for a foreign employer is not as easy as your parents in the countryside say. Maybe it is because the children are afraid that their parents will worry, so they talk about how happy they are, but it is also very hard. My mother was also satisfied when she heard that.

Try to show off to the audience

Nhìn mãi những hình ảnh khoe khoang cũng ngán

Looking at those bragging pictures over and over again is boring.

Returning to the city, I see young people, even many people I know who are at an age where they should be discreet and modest, are always showing off everywhere, especially on Facebook.

They show off anything, as long as it makes others admire.

I am most allergic to showing off cars, villas, wine, cigars, phones... Those are just material things. The previous generation left the next generation with lessons about behavior, intelligence, inventions, civilizations, books. Wine, cars, phones are consumer goods, money can buy them. But culture and behavior take time to learn, to cultivate and discipline oneself.

I don’t generalize, but I’ve noticed that many people on Facebook are the opposite of who they are in real life. If they are the epitome of success and happiness online, they are the opposite in real life. There are fights between husbands and wives, unfaithful husbands and wives, and they are not committed to their families.

Human psychology is that when we lack something, we tend to seek it out or cover it up and want others to see us well. However, choosing to "show off" will certainly make many people feel uncomfortable.

It's not that people are selfish. They don't see any benefit in seeing those sweet pictures. Why would you show off your family's story to the world? Showing off means you want to receive compliments and admiration.

Compliments cost no one anything, but having to compliment and seeing the same thing repeated every day becomes counterproductive. And unintentionally, the person who likes to brag has created jealousy and envy for himself.

What do you think about showing off joy and happiness on social networks? In your opinion, should we keep our happiness to ourselves and our loved ones? Please share your views to the email address [email protected]. Tuoi Tre Online thanks you.
