Implementing the restructuring of the agricultural sector in depth, Tanh Linh district is one of the province's major rice granaries, focusing on solutions to develop concentrated, high-quality rice production areas, adapting to climate change, and linking consumption according to the value chain.
Centralized, mass production
In Tanh Linh district, over 11,000 hectares of rice land are planned. In practice, production has encountered many risks related to the market, climate change, fragmented production, lack of concentration, affecting farmers' lives. Therefore, in addition to concentrated, synchronous production, SRI farming... combined with value chain linkage organization is one of the stable and long-term solutions to increase value and sustainable development.
Recently, Tanh Linh district has implemented in-depth restructuring of the agricultural sector, achieving some initial results. These results are shown in 2023, the locality cooperated with the Mekong Delta Rice Institute to test rice varieties in Gia An and Bac Ruong communes. Thereby creating a source of high-quality, high-yield seeds for mass production in the district. In addition, Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company has cooperated in production and consumption of rice seeds with 33 households/29 hectares and Gia An cooperative/15 hectares, initially bringing significant effects on the environment, farming habits... In addition, cooperatives and cooperative groups have cooperated with companies and enterprises such as annual rice seed production from 200 - 250 hectares, basically meeting the amount of seeds in the district, the rate of using certified rice seeds reached 95%. This result aims to promote the conversion of upland crops on inefficient rice-growing land, improve the efficiency of production linkages along the value chain with large-scale fields, organic rice production, application of high and clean technology, meeting VietGAP standards, improved SRI rice cultivation... improve the quality of rice products and adapt to climate change.
In the field of commercial rice production, to further improve the quality and value of agricultural products and have stable output, Tanh Linh has linked up with Dai Nhat Phat Company, Dai Nong Co Me Company and other enterprises in the production and consumption chain of products on over 3,200 hectares of high-quality rice.
Maintain and expand the area of model fields and large model fields
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc - Vice Chairman of Tanh Linh District People's Committee said that from the advantages of land, environment, product development policies... up to now, Tanh Linh rice has entered stores, supermarkets, kitchens of families in and outside the district and is highly appreciated by consumers, with 2 rice products achieving 3-star OCOP.
However, rice production in the province in general and Tanh Linh in particular still faces many difficulties due to epidemics and climate change. On the other hand, restructuring the agricultural sector is in its initial stages; linkage and cooperation in production according to the value chain in agriculture are not yet highly effective, smart agricultural production, application of high technology, digital technology to serve agricultural production are not many... Therefore, in 2024, Tanh Linh District People's Committee will continue to implement Resolution No. 05-NQ/TU dated September 10, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on developing a modern, sustainable, high-value-added agricultural sector. Review and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, promote effective implementation to expand concentrated, specialized, intensive commodity production areas with high productivity and quality, increase value chains associated with product consumption linkages. Along with that, invest in infrastructure serving agricultural production in the area in a synchronous manner to reduce production costs for the people. Maintain and expand the area of model fields, large model fields in high-quality rice areas, avoid fragmented production...
These days, as the 2024 Lunar New Year approaches, farmers in the province are focusing on taking care of the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop, along with harvesting vegetables and tubers to serve the Tet market demand. For rice growers, the joy is multiplied when rice prices are increasing these days, averaging over 10,000 VND/kg, giving people more motivation to produce. For Tanh Linh district alone, in order to achieve the goal of developing concentrated, high-quality rice production areas that adapt to climate change and link consumption according to the value chain, the leaders of the district People's Committee also recommended that the provincial agricultural sector and related levels and sectors pay attention to ensuring irrigation water sources; develop more cooperatives and cooperatives to increase the efficiency of the chain.
According to the People's Committee of Tanh Linh district, the district produces over 26,000 hectares of rice annually, with an average food output of 165,000 tons. The district has built large rice fields of about 3,030/3,400 hectares, reaching 89.1% of the planned rice area in large fields in the period of 2021-2025. In parallel, the high-quality rice area has been deployed and implemented, reaching nearly 1,800 hectares, accounting for 53% of the planned large field area. Over 2,700 hectares are produced organically, of which 69 hectares are produced according to VietGAP standards with the "Tanh Linh Rice" brand.
