On the morning of April 12, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province organized a meeting to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2025 of the Khmer people.
The meeting took place in an exciting and warm atmosphere at Monivongsa Bopharam Pagoda (Ward 1, Ca Mau City).
Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Minh Luan, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Phuong Dong, Standing Member of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Culture - Social Committee, Provincial People's Council; Mr. Huynh Ngoc Sang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thu Tu, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, and representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors, civil servants in charge of ethnic affairs, civil servants, public employees, soldiers of the armed forces, retired cadres, and policy families.
Before the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Luan, together with Most Venerable Thach Ha, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ca Mau Province, Chairman of the Provincial Association of Patriotic Monks and Monks, and officials from departments, agencies and sectors burned incense and offered flowers at the Buddha altar.
In the joyful, excited, warm and affectionate atmosphere of the meeting, Venerable Thach Ha, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ca Mau province, Chairman of the Association of Patriotic Monks and Monks in the province, reviewed the tradition of Chol Chnam Thmay festival of the Khmer people. Similar to the Lunar New Year of the Kinh people, Chol Chnam Thmay festival also has the meaning of the transition from the dry season to the rainy season, the time to prepare for the upcoming crop. Chol Chnam Thmay festival means the traditional New Year of the Khmer people, one of the very important festivals taking place in the middle of the third lunar month; on 3 days: April 14, 15, 16. The Chol Chnam Thmay festival meeting is an opportunity for us to look back on the past year, along with the achievements in socio-economic development of our province.

In the joy of the traditional New Year of the ethnic people, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Sang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, wished the meeting joy and excitement, wished the monks and Khmer people a Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2025 full of joy, happiness, peace, prosperity, and continued to preserve and promote the good traditional cultural values of the nation.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Luan presented flowers to Venerable Thach Ha to express his gratitude to the monk.
Mr. Huynh Ngoc Sang affirmed that in recent times, with the attention of Party committees and local authorities at all levels, the province's ethnic work has been effective, and the people's lives have been increasingly improved. The ethnic cultural identity has been preserved and promoted, and areas with a large Khmer population have been focused on investment and development, with many Khmer households overcoming difficulties to escape poverty and become rich, and their material and spiritual lives have been improved, with a focus on building new rural areas. These results have contributed significantly to the overall achievements of the province.
Mr. Huynh Ngoc Sang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, wished the meeting joy and excitement, and wished the monks and Khmer people a joyful and happy Chol Chnam Thmay 2025.
“The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and the provincial leaders believe that the monks and Khmer people in the province will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, respond to and implement the Party's guidelines and policies and laws of the State, enthusiastically participate in patriotic emulation movements, and make practical contributions to the cause of great national unity,” Mr. Huynh Ngoc Sang wished.
Director of the Department of Education and Training Nguyen Minh Luan awarded scholarships to 20 Khmer students from difficult circumstances who have made great efforts and achievements in their studies.
Ca Mau province has 21 ethnic minorities, with over 12 thousand households and nearly 48 thousand people; the largest ethnic minority in the province is the Khmer with nearly 10 thousand people. The Khmer ethnic group lives intertwined in communes, wards and towns, concentrated in rural areas. Through projects of national target programs prioritizing ethnic minority areas, people have gradually escaped poverty, with only 463 poor Khmer households in the whole province. In 2024 alone, 329 households escaped poverty, corresponding to a 2.57% reduction in the poverty rate among ethnic minorities.
