People in Com hamlet, Dong Lai commune (Tan Lac) develop traditional brocade weaving to improve their income.

Currently, the agricultural sector in the province develops in three forms: individual households producing small-scale industry, small-scale industrial cooperatives, and private enterprises. Agricultural products are diverse, mainly using locally available raw materials. In addition to traditional products such as brocade weaving, wine making, rice wine making, weaving, rattan and bamboo products, there are other products such as brooms, agricultural material production, small mechanics, ornamental stone processing, wooden furniture, and ceramics.

According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD), the province's agriculture and rural areas have gradually shifted from a traditional small scale to developing towards the production of goods and new high-quality products. Thereby, not only serving the domestic market but also capturing other large markets inside and outside the province. Agriculture and rural areas have contributed to job creation, shifting the labor structure in rural areas, and increasing income for rural people.

Com Hamlet, Dong Lai Commune (Tan Lac) was recognized as a Traditional Brocade Weaving Village in 2017. Since then, the brocade weaving craft of the Muong people has not only been preserved by the people, but has also had good developments. The establishment of the Dong Lai Traditional Brocade Weaving and General Services Cooperative is a testament to this. Visiting this craft village, we can see that every day there are people gathering at the Cooperative to weave products.

Mrs. Bui Thi Tuom (75 years old) said: "Thanks to the cooperative, we have restored the looms and preserved the traditional weaving profession. Every day we spin and weave together to improve our health in old age and earn more income."

Mr. Bui Van Khoa, Director of the Cooperative, said: If production is maintained stably, each worker of the Cooperative can earn from 3 to 4 million VND/month. Recently, the Cooperative has restored the mulberry growing and silkworm raising profession to proactively source weaving materials. However, the Cooperative is still facing difficulties due to lack of workshops and no spinning equipment, so it has to send cocoons to Thanh Hoa for preliminary processing. Therefore, the brocade weavers in Com hamlet hope to receive support in terms of capital, workshops and consumption links for the sustainable development of the weaving profession.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, of the 11 recognized craft villages, there are 2 craft villages producing processed products; 1 traditional craft village of rattan and bamboo weaving; 2 craft villages producing handicrafts and fine arts; and 6 traditional craft villages weaving brocade. In recent years, the Central and the province have implemented many policies to develop agriculture and rural areas, helping craft villages restore and expand production. Currently, the revenue from agriculture and rural areas in the whole province reaches 1,324 billion VND/year, creating jobs for over 35,000 workers.

However, the production scale of craft villages is mainly household-based, small-scale, and has not really attracted local labor. Product consumption is still limited, mainly relying on the domestic market. Production technology is still largely manual, equipment is outdated, and there has not been investment in innovation to improve product design and quality. In addition, product promotion and marketing are still limited, and tourism potential has not been well exploited in promoting and consuming products, especially traditional handicraft products.

To overcome these limitations, the province is implementing many synchronous solutions. In the immediate future, the focus will be on supporting craft villages to improve designs, enhance product quality, develop brands and promote trade. At the same time, continue to preserve and develop potential traditional craft villages, support the construction of concentrated raw material areas, and increase the value of agricultural and rural production in a sustainable manner.
