Strange creatures discovered in caves in Phong Nha

While surveying a cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, an expedition team discovered a strange creature with a opaque white main body, with many branches branching out from the base, similar to a starfish.

On June 17, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Head of the Quang Binh Provincial Forest Protection Department, said he had sent images of the strange creature to the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) for consultation.

Previously, Mr. Le Luu Dung, Director of Jungle Boss Company Limited (Phong Nha town, Bo Trach district) had a written report and pictures of a strange creature never seen before in a cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

Specifically, during an expedition that took place in early June at Hung Cave, the Jungle Boss expedition team discovered a strange creature lying on the surface of rock slabs and stalactites, about 300m from the cave entrance.

In an area of ​​several dozen square meters, the expedition team counted about 40-50 of these strange creatures.

The creature has a main body that is opaque white, with many branches branching out from the base, similar to a starfish. The branches extend in many directions and are several centimeters long.

Above is the secondary body consisting of many tendrils about a hand's breadth high. These tendrils are white and stretchy.

"This is a very strange creature, the first time I've seen it. At first, I predicted it might be a mushroom and sent the pictures to mushroom experts, but no one knew this species," said Mr. Le Luu Dung.

Jungle Boss Company has sent images to the Quang Binh Provincial Forest Protection Department to continue sending them to experts to study and evaluate the strange creature.

Previously, around the beginning of May, the survey team of Jungle Boss Company also discovered a unique "hanging" lake, 15m higher than the underground river system inside Thung Cave, temporarily named Lo Lung Lake.

The continuous discovery of new things shows that there are still many mysteries that have not been fully discovered, as well as the uniqueness and attractiveness of Phong Nha - Ke Bang tourist area, Quang Binh.
