On December 29, the Center for Investment Promotion, Enterprise Support and Management of Dak Nong Geopark announced that a team of experts including Dr. La The Phuc, Deputy Director of the Institute of Applied Geology and Minerals Research and cave expert Luong Thi Tuat discovered a completely new lava cave in the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark area, after comparing with records of previously known caves.
The new cave is located in the northeast, about 1,800 m from Nam Blang crater. The cave has many unique formation features such as a sinkhole similar to Cave C7, the cave structure and length are approximately the same as Cave C9 (217 m long), the landscape facing the cave mouth has similarities to Cave C8.
Preliminarily, the cave structure is assessed as quite stable and sturdy, opening up great potential for local tourism development.
This discovery is considered an important highlight, following the success of the second UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark title receiving ceremony held on the evening of December 26 in Dak Nong province.
