The team of 12 experts explored the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and surrounding areas in Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa districts. As a result of the survey, the expedition recorded 22 new caves and 3 additional surveyed caves with a total length of 3,550 m.

The surveyed caves range in length from 30 m to 572 m, of which the four longest caves are: Va Cave (516 m), 12/2 Dry Cave (404 m) in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Vuc Hung Cave (430 m) in Thuong Trach Commune in the buffer zone of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Ong Dau Cave (572 m) in Lam Hoa Commune, Tuyen Hoa District. Mr. Pham Hong Thai, Director of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board, said that the newly discovered caves are only within the scope of research, location determination, and preliminary description. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct in-depth surveys and research to clarify their value, thereby making accurate assessments in the conservation and sustainable exploitation of this landscape and cave.
“This discovery adds to the geological and geomorphological value of the area recognized as a heritage site, enriching the geological and geomorphological data set. It affirms the exceptional value of the geological and geomorphological criteria of the world natural heritage value and also serves scientific research and tourism,” said Mr. Pham Hong Thai.
