On August 6, the website of Thai Public Broadcasting (Thai PBS) reported that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra attended a birthday party of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh.
Footage from a video posted on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's official TikTok account shows former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, at the party. Cambodia's Fresh News channel also reported on the party.
Earlier, on August 5, Mr. Thaksin announced that he would continue to postpone his plan to return to Thailand after many years of exile. Mr. Thaksin's appearance in Cambodia comes at a time when the Pheu Thai Party, the latest in a string of parties allied to Mr. Thaksin, is trying to win enough support in the National Assembly for one of its candidates to become prime minister after the general election in May.
Previously, on August 5, on social network X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Thaksin said he would postpone his planned return home on August 10 because of a doctor's appointment.

Mr Thaksin was elected prime minister of Thailand in 2001 and re-elected in 2005. He was ousted in a military coup in 2006 on charges of corruption, abuse of power and disrespect for the country's monarchy. He fled Thailand in 2008 to avoid jail time in several criminal cases. Prime Minister Hun Sen invited Mr Thaksin to serve as an economic adviser to the Cambodian government in 2009, but the post was short-lived.
The government led by his sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, was also overthrown in a military coup in 2014. Yingluck also faces criminal charges and lives in exile.
